Alright so I have been wetshaving with DEs, SEs, and Straights for almost 5 years! In the beginning I bought a lot of blades in 5 packs and some singles etc. Alot or them I blamed for providing bad shaves. But now 5 years later my 100 packs that I bought of Astra SP, Personna Lab Blue, Rapira SS, and Gillette Yellows are beginning to run low. Meaning I need to buy new blades soon. But I still have all these "bad" blades! But as my technique has improved are these blades really bad?

I have said recently that I believe the blade is not really the culprit of a bad shave so that is where some testing comes in!

So in my not so scientific approach I am going to use bad blades and see how they perform. My soap and my brush will change but these will be soaps I am familiar with so I know they'll be good. My razor well I'll be using my Timeless! So a darn good razor!

I promise at least two shaves per blade!

Here's what I have in deck to use that I deemed bad blades and some I never bothered to try due to reviews.



I'll post updates here and also record some along the way. Am I missing any bad blades?

RATING SYSTEM
TRASH: Can't get a good shave. This blade is horrible. Never use again.
BAD: A bad blade but technically still got a serviceable shave, but have no desire to use the blade again.
GOOD: It was good enough that if I have another blade I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
100PACK: This blade was good enough to warrant stocking up!

Bic and Derby should be passable at least. The rest I have no experience with.
 
I thought I had some Dorco 300 and 301 lying around apparently I don't. I remember hating those!
 
Any bad blade you want me to try just let me know, I'll gladly PayPal you a postage stamp, but I'd prefer to not buy a 5 pack or a 10 pack.
 
I have a Muhle which I hear is a bad blade. But no merkur blade.
 
The Rockwell blades went with the Rockwell when I sold it. I never tried them. And no Parker
 
Wanna borrow a Russian razor to try those dudes out with?
 
The Lord blades are the absolute worst I ever tried! I don’t have anything left in my den I would consider bad.
 
I like the Bic’s, got nothing but good shaves with them. The sharks are implements of torture developed by ISIS with collaboration from North Korea and Russian operatives...designed to rip your face off leaving you in excruciating pain, weak and vulnerable. Good luck with those. The dorco 300/301 blades have never done me wrong, they are my travel kit blades because they came with the plastic dorco razor I use on the road. I’ve also used the qshave blades with no problem. Being a Chinese sourcethe QC might be questionable so good luck there too.
 
You know Chad, I was blaming blades for bad shaves recently as well. I think you’re right though, it probably wasn’t the blade as much as my technique being bad. Very interested to see how you make out here!
 
I guarantee, some of these will tear Chad up.

I’m curious, are you going from one blade to the next, or are you going to a known blade in between to allow some healing?

To be honest...I believe I have had adequate shaves from most of those blades. I have some Chinese Gillette Blades however that are not good at all. Feel free to let me know you want to try them!
