Birth Year Razors

October 1964 for me, so J-4. I had a Super-Speed and then got a Slim. Gave both the Spa And Spruce Up treatment at Delta Echo, and only kept the Slim for myself, as I get great shaves and love how mechanical, cool, Space Race, Bond, and just plain American made and still functioning as intended it is!!

I have an F-4 (1960, 4th qtr) Fat Boy and an F-2 Super Speed. I’ve not found a SS in my quarter in good condition yet.

Well thanks to a super awesome member of this forum an auction was spotted and I was told about it. Included in said auction were two vintage Gillette razors. One of them is an O-4 English Gillette with a long black plastic handle TTO. The other was the reason I bid on it and it was the C-3 1982 Black Handle Super Speed I have been looking for since beginning this thread in November. If the razor looks like the pictures then I am super stoked!!!!!!!

My birth year is 1962. And I was born in July so that makes my birth quarter code for Gillette H3. That leaves me pretty much three options. Slim Adjustable. Fat Boy. Flair Tip. The Fat Boy in that year is extremely rare. I have not seen many at all. The Flair Tip is a little more common and have seen exactly one offered on the auction site. I was going to go for it, had it in my watch list. And as the auction was coming to an end I was distracted and by the time I realized it, the auction had ended and the razor had sold with only one bid at a ridiculously low price making me kick myself for days. Oh well. Another will come up. As for the Slim Adjustable, I have two.

Okay folks, once again I am late to the party, however my birth year/quarter is X4. No, not that one, the one which was the year after they started with the date codes! Up until now, all I had to show was an under performing X4 Super Speed and a plastic handle Tech, which was pretty cool considering that they had to use plastic for the handle because the brass was used to make bullet casings for the Korean War. I recently acquired a 3rd Gen English Aristocrat, and although they did not use date codes, mr-razor said these were made between 1949-52. In discussion with my moral compass - John, I decided that this razor was actually made at the end of the production run in 1952, thus making it my official birth year razor:

My birthyear/quarter Gillette code is O3 - July 1969. I got lucky and found a very nice Gillette slim adjustable “Black Beauty” with a date code O3 for my second safety razor purchase. I absolutely love the shaves I get from this vintage razor.

A little update to the above. I was able to find a third H3 Slim Adjustable on the e of the bay at a good price. It looks like it needs to be cleaned up a bit but am waiting until another razor is delivered. I was able to also snag a H3 Gillette Flair Tip. Once it arrives I'll clean both razors using boiling water and Dawn dishwashing liquid along with a toothbrush and some Blue Magic polish. That should satisfy my hankering for birth quarter/year razors for quite some time.

Got a little busy preparing for my vacation when this guy came in. Our newest vendor @Techichi sold me an X4 Super Speed a while back that worked fine but was in need of a facelift. Because I live in western WA, we are required to cheer for the Seattle Seahawks (good thing they are winning this year). So, I sent my X4 off to North Shore Razors to get Seahawks treatment.

Looks close enough compared to a real Seahawk?
