Best modern DE

KJ,

I have been playing with my Blackbird for a better part of two months. Then I got my Mergress and been enjoying it so much getting both close and smooth shaves. My Blackbird is efficient and pretty intuitive but a some irritation if I go for a third pass.

I will be concentrating on my Charcoal Goods LVL2 and my Raw RS10

I have yet to try any of the Ti or SS Timeless razors, but have tried the bronze OC, Blackland Dart, and Karve cdf...the Karve is far and away, as far as DE's concerned, the best I've used to date.

Karve is coming out with an OC version of the razor....btw...

Raw Shaving RS10- a premium razor! Anyone tried it? It repeatedly receives high praise for how SMOOTH it shaves. I have 2/3rds of the funds saved up towards one & can't wait to see if the hype is true (I have a feeling it is).

I have one. It’s great. Probably my favorite. I wouldn’t call it my smoothest nor would I call it my most efficient. What it is is an extremely efficient razor (one of the closest I have) that offers almost no irritation at all. I love the agressive head better than the mild.

Until I got my RS10 Ti I thought the Paradigm 17-4 had the best combination of smoothness and efficiency but the RS10 mild plate with a feather is a great, smooth and efficient daily driver. If I put the feather on the aggressive plate I can take down 3-4 days of growth with no problem

Mark,

I have only used the Raw with an Astra SP, Astra SS and most recently a Sputnik. It wasn’t until I put the Sputnik in that I found the Mild Plate take a leap forward in the smoothness area that I hear people speak of. I was getting probably the best smooth-to-efficient shave I have ever had but not the smoothest. Now on my second shave I am seeing the hype that people speak of with the mild plate. I still have the Polsilve and Feathers to try.

To me I actually enjoy the aggressive plate better

I myself have really only TRIED the Timeless (in various configurations), The Karve, and the Rockwell 6s. I have also tried various modern fixed razors (non-adjustable), but those I won't really mention here. Out of these I have tried...I really liked the Rockwell 6s with a mild configuration and a Feather blade. That probably gave me the best shave of my life! That being said...I am currently using a Merkur Progress and I think it probably gives a better shave than most razors. I still think the Rockewell was better...but the price was right for me on the Progress as it was a gift.

I’ll put in a vote for the Rockwell 6S. Lots of flexibility. Have not yet found a blade that didn’t work well with the 6S.

Rockwell Model T and the Parker Variant are also in the lineup.

I will say that my 34C, DE89, and Merkur Slant don’t get much action.

The best of the best in my den can be narrowed down to 5:
-Raw Shaving RS10
-Rex Ambassador
-Karve
-RR Game Changer (both plates)
-Rockwell 6c

Raw RS-10 with a Feather blade hands down for me as of today.
I had 5 days growth and this sucker with the aggressive plate had me between bbs and DFS in two passes. I could have stopped after one pass if I wanted to.

My favorite DE's are:

Fixed head: Razorock GC .68
Adjustable: Parker Variant

I recently tired the Muhle Rocca R96 V3. After a week of shaving with it, I decided the handle works nicely with my GC head.

That was pretty remarkable to see on your video!
