Sometimes it is hard to fight the urge to become more cynical and lose faith in the work ethic that now exists post COVID. My case in point, finally after a few years of issues with my AC at the shop, and a unit that failed a few weeks ago, yesterday, as I posted yesterday, I was elated to finally have AC again….. Well that lasted for a whole 3 hours. You would expect that 8500.00 later, and a brand new unit that this type of issue would not happen. Not to mention if you tell me you are going to be here to trouble shoot the issue at 0600, then be here at 0600. Now at 0740 the installer is still not here.Grrrrr. The only
Reason I do not bring down the Thunder and rip these folks, is that is could be a fluke, but by not showing up on time is closing that window is closing, resulting in the possibility that ass parts will litter the building
Thankfully I am calm as a result of damn near a perfect shave!
Rant over….. Let’s get to the good stuff. Today was day two of the flight testing of the Blackland Osprey. Today we bumped up the setting to level five from the previous setting of level one. Level one was no blade feel very mild and by about noon I could definitely feel some stubble at level five it is now approaching the type of shave that she would get from the Vector and the Tradere, even bordering the black bird, which I’ve mentioned in the past is probably the most efficient DE I’ve ever owned.
The one surprising thing about today’s shave is when, picking up the razor it immediately felt like it belonged in the hand that does not happen other than the vector so this razor is not only in competition with the Gillette Fatboy, but also with all the other Blackland razors.
On setting five there was definitely a good amount of blade feel extremely efficient without being harsh and just wonderful to shave with post shave. I would say that this is almost equivalent to the fat boy on seven, but just at tremendous shave, and very little cleanup necessary, followed with all the items shown above. It was just absolutely a perfect DSBBS Shave
Tomorrow will continue the flight test, moving the bar up to level seven, which is equivalent to what I shave with on the Gillette fat boy to see how that compares, and then on Saturday will take it all the way up to level nine to see how it does, and again on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be the actual shoot out and comprehensive review of the Osprey.
Again, after two uses, it’s too early to say, but initial reports are number one it was well worth the investment, and number two this may have truly supersede any of the other Blackland razors, of which I have all except the Saber as the best one the Blackland is ever put out.
It should also be mentioned that the flow through and cleaning of the razor even with the brass insert, doesn’t show any signs that it will clog up as long as you keep on top of it, and it just feels perfect in the hand

So you've finally found the razor to end all razors? How will you sell off all of your admittedly inferior razors? Individually, or in bulk?
It is too soon to say, however dare I..... This may unseat the Vector, again to early to tell, Nothing beats a straight, so these will always be secondary

What a difference a day makes. We are cautiously optimistic that the AC will remain operational at the shop. Turns out, as suspected they linked a line during installation, it leaked on wires and shorted, thus blowing the breaker. The contractor admitted they rushed things and did not do a good QC before charging the system
I think he could tell that no excuse was going to suffice, however him being honest helped. He did extend the warrantee for service 2 additional years over the 2 yr standard + his cell phone if I have any issues. So far steady as she goes and a comfortable 72 degrees

Today we ramped up the setting to #7. In comparison the Gillette Fatboy on #7 is about equal to the Osprey on #5. This is as of not a bit more agressive than tje Blackbird Ti. At this setting you do need to be aware as it can and will get you if not careful. Again still very smooth, balanced, and wonderful to shave with. Overall shave feel is DSBBS, however the resulting shave was no better than on Level 5 but a bit more alum feedback and for me a bit of irritation.
So the stage is set for the “Dogfight”. Looking at blade gaps. The Fatboy will be on 7 (my normal setting) and the Osprey on 5 ( as the blade gaps are the same, and to date the best shave on it so far). We will be using Hoffman’s Dogfight shave soap, aftershave, EdP, and the same brush to remove all variables to crown a winner. We will also be doing a comprehensive review as well.

Ok Props trimmed for full speed assault on the highest setting of #9 today, as we complete the initial Flight Testing of the Osprey before going head to head in the “Osprey / Fatboy dogfights this weekend.
At this level it is SUPER aggressive to my face, and I shave with a straight! Huge gap and nothing but blade feel. I even had to take the attitude, and patience of shaving with a straight, as at this level it is just waiting to strafe you. I will never use this setting unless I grow a beard (never will happen). However for coarse or dense beards this would be perfect, with not clogging guaranteed.
Usually I state that the Crat #15 open comb is my most aggressive and far as harshness, and the Blackbird Ti being the most overall smooth aggressive. However in 9 this is a beast!
Good 3 pass shave however my skin is now refreshed with a new layer LOL. Alum made itself known but still DSBBS. A bit of tightness on the face but not a whisker in sight. Actually even more aggressive that a straight, but again a great shave.
So…. The stage is set for this 3-day dogfight. Here is the pre-flight based on what each razoro brings to even the playing field as close as possible. Also to remove variables the crew will be the same all three days Based on blade gaps the flaps will set as follows:

Nice change of pace today after three days with the same stuff. But I found myself for my predawn shave…. @GearNoir
, grabbing for the Vector as I very often do that’s why we’re going to be doing a Vector/Osprey shoot out here in the next couple of weeks to see which one of those now reigns supreme. The Osprey indeed, has a very uphill battle as we all know of my love of the vector.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve had a tube of proraso, but I was ordering stuff off of Amazon and it popped up and why not I forgot how good this stuff is
A nice three pass shave for DSBBS, the regular proraso aftershave some Quinn’s, witch hazel and Cubebe to finish it all off and then of course some talc. It’s gonna be a good Wednesday/my Monday.

Back to the Osprey today, what a wonderful shave I did kick it up from 5 to six on the settings and by the end of the Shave I think I settled on 5 1/2 for the perfect DSBBS shave
The MWF was the perfect skating rink for the Osprey followed by the omega gel and royal musk. Great shape today. Looking forward to my weekend.
