Perfect hot weather shave with the “wraith” today. It’s all about the green. Sadly PCN is now Sunsetting the Business, and yet another top quality soap maker is closing. This was one of the top soap in all categories. Thankfully I have a stock coming, so at least I will be able to enjoy it for a few more years

The razor…. Well, nothing else really needs to be said. Every so often a razor comes along that will be in the Razor Hall of Fame. For instance:
Dorko 1151, Filarmonica, CV Heljestrand, Case, the GEM, Gillette New, Aristocrat, Vector, and many more. The Essence deserves that as well

Today was a nice relaxed shave before headed to the shop, for my Friday. At 0430 the ranch was quiet, and good hot cup of coffee, all the critters asleep, both 4-legged, and 2-legged. The whole house was dark and quiet, so nice to just let the shave flow easily, no rush, with some of my favorite products

3P/DSBBS today and ready for some days off

Hope everyone has a Stupendous Saturday!

SV 70th Shave Soap / Aftershave / EdP

Thayers Lemon
Yardley Gentlemen Talc

All SV and all Wonderfully Italian today. If you think of the Biggies in Italian inspired shave Items, that include Soap, Aftershave, Fragrance, you have to include:

1. Acqua di Parma
2. Proraso
3. Fine Italian Citrus
4. SV 70th

and of those 4 as much as AdP would like to be the "One" 70th is on top. refreshing, Light, and almost cooling in nature, and best of all, almost entirely derived from Natural products, including the alcohol. For years it maintained the top overall soap in the Den ( knocked off by both PcN and CBL Orion) on soap performance, but if you look at the overall product depth, 70th Wins overall as it has Shower Soap, Shaving Soap, Aftershave, Fragrance.... Now if we could just get a talc, we would have Shave Nirvana!

As for the razor... It's Koraat, not much else need to be said perfect in 3 passes and a nice DSBBS shave. No alum Sting, Some Thayer's Lemon, and more 70th!

A good Sunday, except for the blast furnace outside

OOP forgot Suck to get ancient. Anyway here is what I did

07.25.2025
Jerry Stark 6/8 Kami ( @Luecke3262 @Majorrich @CVargo @Fenster @uacowboy @Spider @HMan - Since I did not get to watch this Basho I made my Youtube Thumbnail in Tribute and mention gents in my Video )
Matt Deruiter Sakura Asian Jar / Synth ( okay I renamed it for this shave...)
The Holy Black Bamboo Shave Soap / Aftershave
Alum
Thayers Cucumber

A very Japanese Shave to Celebrate Sumo, via Brooklyn, and Holbrook, AZ ( Watch Video to see WTH I am talking about ) Like them or not THB puts out a stellar product ( when you can get it ). Out of all their offerings, I think this one is the best overall. If they had an EdT, it would be Asian Perfection! The Kami, as a Western Grind is one of my cherishes razors, as it was one of the last ones Jerry made, before shuttering and moving on to going back to begin a restaurateur. Not to mention is was a gift.

3-passes today, bowl lathered no-less, and a good match for the DeRuiter. DSBBS all the way, and the aftershave is just so nice with notes of Bamboo, some greenery, cherry Blossom and more. Strong enough to also use as an EdT, and matched well with the Thayers Cucumber.

A nice Shave today

Hope you are all having a tremendous Tuesday!

1st shave with the Nero, and typical of PcN. Just wonderful. This has a bit more punch on the frag side and a huge list of notes that are very aquatic, citrus and has feels of the Italian coastline. Pairs perfect with Royall Yacht. Not much else to be said about the BB Ti. And just a fast efficient 3-pass DSBBS shave

If anyone knows the profile of Nero, and has other suggestions for a frag please let me know

Have a Wonderful Wednesday

Quick DE shave, that I purposely slowed down to enjoy all the products today, and not take them for granted, and to enjoy the shave, rather than making it so routine during the work week.

So all about the Fougere. The Asylum is a much sharper green, than the creaminess of EF, but they still pair well. RF is a Fougere punch in the face, as the EF is much more refined. Great lather and a good shave in bringing the Weber out of the vault

All the finishing goodness to make it a DSBBS shave.

The monsoon is here finally so I was met with a couple of tarantulas in the driveway today. They were sauntering around probably waiting for thier burrows to dry up so they could go back to their house. I scooted them out of the way and off to the shop @Spider

Have a Terrific Thursday

It’s all about the red today, and all about the spice. 1st a mellow spice and wonderful performance from the soap to the aftershave toner. This is good stuff. 1st time I have used the 620 to apply the suds, and as expected it did a wonderful job.

Finished off the 3-pass shave with old school, the Original Shulton Old Spice!

Nothing else comes close!

Hope everyone has a Fantastic Friday!

Wait....that's the first time you've used that brush???? It looks so relaxed. Are you sure it isn't the 400th use?

Interesting evening and morning. Good monsoon rolled through about 9 pm last night and knocked out power. Still out as of this writing and it got a bit toasty and humid. Not much in the way of sleep last night, and my decision to get a full size generator, as opposed to the small “bug out” solar one has been confirmed. So today’s shave was via candlelight, or in this case led candle. So I grabbed what I could for a dimly lit room

So the ASD2 got the call as you can use this blindfolded and the Darwin is easy to lather and Lemon and Lavender are always good

Finished off with Arlington and off to the shop. Hoping we get power back at home soon or will be sending the Boss and the critters to a hotel

Hope you are having a Stupendous Saturday

Castille Soap is interesting for sure.. Nothing like a soap you can bathe with , wash your clothes, Take a bath, and wash your livestock! Oh Ya it was used to shave with. Long before the Bougie items came across the pond, folks in the west has to make due and that was today. Only wooded boar brushes were avail, and sometimes they were horse hair, Javelina Hair, and maybe an errant Racoon, or Coyote. The razor is period actual and all in all not a terrible shave.

maybe an errant Racoon
I was lucky enough to find myself in Crete a few years ago in a shop that specialized in turning crafts made out of Olive wood.

They had a few lovely shave brushes and when I asked them what sort of hair they contained, the owner answered me in Greek (makes sense right?). I looked confused (speaking next to no Greek), so he thought for a moment and then proudly said “Raccoon!” with joy on his face of remembering a hard word in a foreign language. I must’ve really looked amiss at that answer because he pulled up his shop laptop to show me a picture of the “raccoon” (a badger 🦡 thankfully).

I wound up buying a brush from him, which was given away as a gift.
