I must ask how it smells? Is this a barbershop scent that tries to smell LIKE a barbershop itself, or it smells like the cologne, soap, and Talc powder FROM a barbershop?
It smells like a barbershop itself old time, and it includes all the items that you discuss, the Barbacide (the blue cleaning liquid) the smell of hot, steamed towels, the smell of hot lather in the lather machine, Osage rub witch hazel, various colognes talcum powder, Barber chair leather, shampoos, conditioners, cleaning alcohol, the entire gambit it’s perfect

It smells just like my barbershop

Ah, not for me then, but interesting it captured that so well. Some companies try that approach and doesn't get it right or adds too much of something.

I like the type that smells like barbershop products rather than smelling like a barbershop itself

Honestly, it’s quite one in the same in my opinion. I would rather have the true sent by using the name barbershop than a manufactured, synthetic or non-realistic scent.

Otherwise, just call it powder or Colonia. As a master Barber, I take the word barbershop as do most barbers with ownership because we truly know what it smells like

Again, just my opinion, but if you’re gonna call it a barbershop sent or soap or cologne then make sure it smell smells that way

True true

Say, in this vein, do you know of any soaps and pre shave that smells like Colonia or original EdC? As in 4711, Farina, Agua Miribilis, etc.

I have Mystics wonderful Florida Water soap but I do like to have a variety. I know of PAA having a Florida Water and 4711 clone line. The sharp citrusy with neroli combo is something I've grown to really enjoy and seek out.

You can move this to the soap thread if necessary, I figure I'd ask someone way more experienced.

I recommend you pass on the PAA Florida Water soap. Not a great dupe of the scent. Their 4711 soap however is excellent.

What's wrong with it? Too sweet? Woody? Floral?
To my nose it doesn't smell anything like the juice. Completely different in every way. Now, I will caveat my statements with the admission that I use and have ONLY used the Peruvian version that has "Peru" listed on the label. The non-Peruvian version may smell different and that is what the PAA soap is trying to capture.

Yeah I suspect as much. The regular greenish clear is a sweeter floral spicy with lighter citruses. Lots of sweet cinnamon and clove
