Good evening, Cadre. A late shave for yet another morning appointment! Egads, WTHeck is going on here? This one is at my dentist. And get this, Thursday is even worse, if you can imagine. I have to be downtown by 9am, and it takes a good 20 minutes to get there. Probably 25 minutes tomorrow, as I’ll be catching the tail end of rush hour. But this one I’m looking forward to - I’ll be volunteering at a cancer outreach organization, which I last actively did before the pandemic. I love the organization and the people there. Friday I can sleep in.

Once again a late shave for a morning commitment (9a-12n) as a volunteer at Cancer Bridges, a truly remarkable organization. We’re very fortunate to have them here. Then I zip back across town and head north for a bit to see my Hem-Onc doc. Fortunately for me, I’m seeing him in his capacity as a hematologist for iron deficiency anemia, which is responding perfectly to treatment. Eleven years ago, one of his partners actually was my oncologist, so I definitely love this group. It’s no exaggeration to say that I owe my life to them, and a multitude of other professionals as well.

Happy Friday, Cadre. It’s almost time for me to head out to my double feature of meetings. Yesterday from 9a - noon I volunteered at the cancer place I mentioned above. I was relieved to find that I was alright in the front desk role. There were a few minutes of craziness, but mostly it was fairly easy. When my shift was concluding, the volunteer coordinator anxiously asked me if I wanted to come back in two weeks. The funny thing was, I was hoping she’d want me back! So it worked out, despite a small dose of trial by fire.
To piggyback on what @MarkB said, I’m marking the passing Of Brian Wilson with perhaps my favorite BB song. When I first heard this at age 10 on my Dad’s car AM radio, I was captivated with the sound the melody, the harmonies, and the story. It stayed on the radio for several weeks, and I heard it daily on my 9V Radio Shack transistor radio. My salute to a genius.

Good day, Cadre. It’s 76F/24C now, will get to 80F/27C later. We’re going over to my in-laws across town for a late Father’s Day dinner. We didn’t go Sunday because Sheri was sick with a fever. Her parents are in their 80s, and she didn’t want to pass along whatever virus was ailing her. It should be a nice time, with a couple of challenges. Her mother talks incessantly, and I mean that literally. She never stops. She’s somewhat hard of hearing, so she compensates by talking louder. Talking to her father can be difficult, as he is very hard of hearing. He refuses to get hearing aids, which we believe is because after all of these years, he’s finally able to tune my MIL out. He’s quite content to ignore her as much as he is able. It’s an interesting dynamic. They are both very nice people, however, and I enjoy their company, though sometimes I’ve taken prophylactic Tylenol for the inevitable headache from the sheer volume and amount of chatter. My MIL should have been in radio - she’d never have been accused of having “dead air”!

Your father-in-law sounds like a very pragmatic and practical man. You should seek his advice on many things.
I have. Among other things, he’s taught me some basic electrical repairs, which has saved us quite a bit of money over the years.
It’s always an adventure when we visit. I took an extended release Tylenol before leaving to visit yesterday, and I was fine. Fortunately, one of our sons met us there, and his grandmother talked his ears off, at high volume, of course. He was smart, drove his own car, and left a little earlier than us.

It’s my wife’s birthday today, so naturally it’s a national holiday. Family tradition dictates that we go out to eat at the restaurant of her choice. Interestingly, she wants to go to a nearby mall’s food court. Looks like I’m having a steak hoagie (hero, grinder, whatever) with fries and some sort of caffeine free beverage.
