Good day, Cadre. It’s just a few minutes past noon, and I had a morning shave about an hour ago, followed by a pleasant Zoom meeting with friends I met through an amazing local cancer support organization. My son and DIL will be over shortly for a visit, along with their big sweet dog, who is technically a purebred pit bull, but is in reality a sweet, overgrown puppy. He still is a lap dog, which is fun. Later on I’ll be off to a meeting with good friends. Fun day. Be well. 🙂

This shave was late last night, after the Zoom call. I’m back home after an 8am appointment. Rather a busy day ahead, so this is a brief note. Have a good day! 🙂

Late shave last night for early morning appointment today. After getting prerequisites completed over the past couple of weeks, today my PCP cleared me for inguinal hernia surgery next Friday. All preparations are done, now I just wait till the day of surgery. 👍

This was yesterday’s shave. Once again, I shaved at the last minute before running out to a meeting (actually two, back to back). Maybe I’ll get it done earlier next Friday. We’ll see how I do tonight. A beautiful spring day here in Pittsburgh: sunny, light breeze, 76F/24C, going up to 81F/27C later. Perfect. Enjoy your day, Cadre! 😀

I should have posted this yesterday, the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride:

Paul Revere’s Ride

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.

He said to his friend, “If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light, —
One, if by land, and two, if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm.”

This is but a snippet. For the full poem, see this site here:

We are fortunate that Longfellow put quill to paper to document this historic event. I just read the full poem, and I encourage you all to do the same. It fills me with wonder, pride, and joy to be an American.

Today is the 250th anniversary of America’s first battle for independence, celebrated locally:

Patriots’ Day commemorates the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775. It has been celebrated as a state holiday since 1894, with Lexington Historical Society playing an instrumental role in persuading the Massachusetts Legislature to formally recognize it on a state level.

This, and other information can be found here: Patriots' Day 2025 — Lexington History Museums

Also, this is from Attend the 250th Anniversary Battle Road Tactical Demonstration - Minute Man National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service), the Minutemen National Historical Park:

Welcome to the 250th Commemoration Saturday, April 19, 2025, will mark the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War. It was here that British Colonists bravely defended their ideals of liberty and self-determination. Join us for this momentous occasion, when many events are planned throughout the day at Minute Man National Historical Park and the surrounding towns of Lexington and Concord.

I hope that you enjoy revisiting the history we all learned in grade school. It is alive and well in Massachusetts. 🇺🇸🫡❤️

Excellent shave this afternoon, and early enough for me to document it before going out later. Will wonders never cease?

I do hope you read the above post as we celebrate the first battles that led to the establishment of our nation’s democracy. 🇺🇸

I was gonna shave yesterday, but didn’t feel like it. Now I feel super smooth, clean, and keen. Going out to a dinner tonight at the cancer outreach center where I’ve volunteered. Even though I haven’t done it for awhile, I must be a “volunteer emeritus” of some sort. I’m ready to go back and volunteer again, though it’ll probably be covering the front desk and door, and answering the phone. Cancer Bridges ( Home - Cancer Bridges) is a terrific organization with excellent resources for anyone affected by cancer: patients, caregivers, spouses, siblings, children, etc. I love the place; they have such a positive impact on the city and region.

Be well, Cadre! 😊

Good afternoon, Cadre. Another fine, sunny day at 75F/24C. Last night’s dinner was wonderful, with great company, conversation, and food. There was a Chocolate Fountain for dessert! I need one for home. Below are pictures of my Aristocrat. It was replated by Sport Shaving about 10 years ago. I took these pictures after its semiannual cleaning. To those readers who I’ve just rendered speechless and sputtering, may I remind you that it is used for SHAVING, not SURGERY.😄

The surgery yesterday went well. No problems to report. Yesterday was a long one, as I started the day at 0430, returned from the hospital at 1230, took a 90 minute nap, and was up watching the Steelers’ first couple of draft picks. I slept very well. Tonight I’m going to be with friends, drinking decaf and munching on treats. Have a wonderful evening, Cadre!
