An Unexpected Journey: A Newbie's Walk In Wet Shaving

I believe that Luck Tiger aftershave is also alcohol free. It’s another good skin soother/skin good splash.

Yet another Christmas list addition! Thanks Chris.

This morning was a pretty good shave. I think the Wilkerson Sword blade is done so I had to take it easy. I did a comfortable 3 pass shave and limited clean-up. One thing I realized this morning was that I've been forgetting hitting the opposite direction on my XTG passes. I'll go ear to nose, but have been forgetting nose to ear. That made a difference in the feel this morning when I had that little epiphany. Nice, effortless BBS shave this morning. I used the WH again and had no irritation doing it the new way I detailed yesterday. I will have to try the alcohol free ones out there and see how I like them.

Yup...I'm with Chris...try out some of the Thayers. Some have alcohol in them and others don't. So just be careful.

I was told that WH wasn't true WH unless it had 15% alcohol. I was told that alcohol needs to be used in the process in order to truly extract WH from the original plant. So................<creeeeek> can of worms opened, is Thayers true WH if it is alcohol free? I know some of our experienced guys here have good answers to that question.

Whoa, Dave, too early for Santa! I like WH when it's in splashes. By itself? No thanks. Smells like sweaty sneakers (YMMV).

Oh Boy! This was a heated conversation on another thread. I understand what you are saying and like @Spider says...technically no. But with Thayers...even the formulations with alcohol in them...I wonder actually how much witch hazel is in it? But most of the bottles will say something like "Witch Hazel Aloe Formula." Either way...I think the Medicated version works the best for me (I think there is alcohol in it). But I like the cucumber for the hot days. Just finished up a bottle of peach. So look around and decide what you like. If it works...great. If it doesn't, move along.

Oh boy, I thought this might stir up the tribe. It sounds to me like I'll just have to try them all out and see what works. Like many have said, I don't care for the smell of WH, but once you apply other stuff it's gone.

One thing I do now is do my final cold water rinse, then while my face is wet I apply the WH liberally, wait 20 seconds or so then rinse it off. Then I just put a light lather of shaving soap on my face and let it sit there while I'm cleaning up my razor, bowl and brush. Then I lightly wash off that last lather. I feel while that last lather is sitting on there that my face is absorbing some of the good stuff from the soap. Mind you it's not drying on my face, but just sitting there like a thin lather. After the rinse some AS lotion goes on and my face is feeling like a million bucks for sure. When I previously used the WH as the last thing on my face it always felt like it was taking off the residual post shave feel of the soap. I feel now I'm getting the good properties of the WH and avoiding the irritation.
