An Unexpected Journey: A Newbie's Walk In Wet Shaving

All of you that can refer to where your house with the word acre can just cool it now.

Yeah I never thought about that before. Us country guys take for granted that we are surrounded by acres of land. I grew up on a one acre parcel and my Dad always talked about buying the woods behind us that I grew up hunting and fishing in. Now he's surrounded on 2 sides by a gravel pit and a large part of it is just gone. I jumped on this land like Shawn jumps on a pile of free high carbon steel

Awesome news on the land! I want acreage out in the country so bad! It's just not the right time now. But I really do envy you! How is the hunting on the property? And can you hut on the property? Streams for fishing? Either way...congratulations!

By the way, I thought you should know...I did a little Mammoth painting myself yesterday during my shave! 😲

Been off-line for a bit. The hunting isn't stellar because it's primarily a night time activity area. There's a motocross track nearby so I think that spooks them away. A big old smart buck might choose to hang out in there though. Lots of activity on the trails but I've never seen a deer on there during deer season - plenty during the summer months though. No streams for fishing, but there is a wet / low area that I heard frogs in so maybe some frog spearing if they are big enough to eat. I doubt it up here, we just don't get those big old frogs like you get down south.

I'm glad to see some members stepping out and being brave on trying the Mammoth Painting. A solid mammoth trumpet to Don and Kyle. You'll have to ask Chris to notch your man cards.

Dude we get Bullfrogs here big enough to feed you with one pair of legs!
C’mon guys fried frog legs are awesome!

I bet TJ's neck of the woods is a lot like mine when it comes to frogs. But man we have so many of them. The funny thing is...you don't really need to go to the swamp to some frog gigging. Just find a little water and they are there in droves!

Fried frog legs are delicious! And I don't think they taste like chicken. I think they taste like frog. And they are so tender. They can be char-grilled or blackened also. Blackened is probably my favorite!

Blackened sounds GOOD !!

We don't get the large bull frogs up here. The largest I've seen are some toads the size of cantaloupes but I haven't considered toad legs and don't think I will. You know.....leg of toad, ear of newt, beak of crow.....sounds too much like skulduggery to me!

Ok, so onto shaving.......This morning I figured out a good compromise to using the open blade with the DE to clean-up. I lathered up my MW Bay Rum like I would for a DE shave. Then once the lather was worked into my face I dipped my brush in the water and worked the water into the lather to make it slick enough for the Feather SS knock-off. Ahhh, slick enough for the open blade yet with a little brush work it was suitable for DE clean-up I just had to pay attention to no pressure since the cushion wasn't quite there. I'll see how that works. Now that I've had a taste of SR's, I don't think I can go back. A straight DE shave for me just doesn't feel the same and seems a notch or two lower than the SR.
