Going with a funky number from jazz guitarist Vinny Valentino today. Hope you enjoy.


Another incredible shave this morning! Returned to my Valobra era TAOS unscented shave soap. Phenomenally thick & slick lather built with the Simpson ST badger brush for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel & Aqua Velva "Musk" aftershave lotion. Popped a fresh Wizamet in the Karve this morning and it was so smooth that I had to check and make sure the blade was actually in there!

A wonderful shave with which to close out the workweek! Returned to Cella and their excellent shave soap & ASB. Traditional Italian almond / marzipan scent with phenomenal lather built with the WWBW synth for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by the matching aftershave balm & YSL "M7 Fresh" EdT.

It's "Synthwave Saturday" and here's a playlist for you. Hope you enjoy.


WOW! What a treat today's shave was. I returned to @CBLindsay / CBL and their wonderful "Lavender & Leather" shave soap with Wagyu Beef Tallow sourced here in my home state. As the title indicates, leather & lavender are the sole notes with this soap. The leather is rich, earthy and slightly sweet. The lavender is very dry, no sweetness here and there's a lighter camphorous note that gives the soap a slight medicinal quality. Somewhat reserved out of the tub, the scent grows with the lather. And regarding the lather, it's quality and performance was some of the best I've ever used! Three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Gillette aftershave gel & Coty "Aspen" EdT. This one's definitely going back in my soap rotation!

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Busy day. It's very warm here and the missus and I took advantage of that to get a few things done in the yard. Later, I went out to run some errands along with getting a (much needed) hair cut and also stopping by to donate blood at the local Lifesouth facility. I'm type O Neg. so I try to donate as often as I can. After that, a stop to pick up a few groceries and back home where we had a dinner of grilled burgers and hotdogs (Nathan's). 🌭

Great shave this morning! New soap day with the initial use of Adopted Acres "Lime on the Line" shave soap. Great lime + spearmint scent (I'm sure there are more in there, but these two stood out the most) with phenomenal lather built with the Paladin badger brush for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel and vintage Aqua Velva "Frost Lime" aftershave lotion.

Phenomenal shave with which to kick off the workweek! Returned to my vintage Shulton "Old Spice" suite of products. Fantastic Old School scent with an incredibly thick and slick lather built with the Paladin badger brush for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel and the matching ASL & EdC.

Another phenomenal shave this morning! Returned to Martin de Candre and their excellent "Fougère" shave soap. Great scent with a wonderfully thick and cushioning lather built with the Rich Yuengel synth for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Castle Forbes "1445" aftershave balm and EdP. #BarberDaveShave excellence!! :cool:

Wow! What a killer shave to start the day! Returned to Ariana & Evans and their excellent "Peach & Cognac" shave soap and splash. Fantastic scent with incredible lather built with the RajonCajon synth for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel, the matching aftershave splash & Versace "Eros" EdT. Love the scent of P&C! The Versace frag is a nice complementary scent but you have to tread lightly. A little goes a long way.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Not much to report. Great practice last night. Our guitarist had shoulder surgery a couple of weeks ago and hadn't been able to play much but showed up last night and killed it! We still have some work to do but I think we're getting there.

Great shave this morning! Returned to Mike's Natural Soaps and his excellent "Bergamot, Orange, Ylang-ylang" shave soap. Great scent and lather built with the WWBW badger brush for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel & Epsilon "01 Blue Mediterranean" aftershave splash. I observed "No Shave Sunday" yesterday so today's shave was extra nice! It's been a while since I last used this soap and had forgotten what a great lather it produces.

So Mike moved his soap business to Portland. He started in NYC (Brooklyn?), moved to Ann Arbor for several years, now he’s on the West Coast. Have soap, will travel.

This album celebrated its 40th birthday last week. Some hated the change. Personally, I loved both the album and new line-up. Van Halen's 1986 album 5150. Hope you enjoy.


Best shave of the week (thus far) today! Returned to The Cajun Blade and their excellent "Forét de Pins" shave soap. Great earthy, pine scent with a phenomenal lather built with the RajonCajonBrushes synth for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel & vintage Avon "Deep Woods" aftershave lotion and EdC.
