Happy Tuesday, Cadre. I hope your week is going well. Sam @woodpusher and I have inadvertently been conducting scientific research on opposite sides of the North American border. We are both using SuperMax Blue Diamond Titanium-coated blades. Interestingly, under the Canadian system of shaving (to say nothing about their odd methods of measurement, what with the metric gasoline and all), Sam gets seven shaves from each blade used north of the border. However, using the identical blade I get 10 effortless shaves per blade. I’m not sure what effect the antiquated Canadian measuring system has on this disparity. Future research is needed to control this variable. Sam, let’s talk about collaborating and publishing this important work.

Morning shave, followed by a couple hours volunteering at the cancer center. Happy Tuesday, Cadre!

Good afternoon, Cadre. Though I haven’t checked with @GearNoir yet, I think this may be Friday. If that turns out to be the case, you all should act accordingly, I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

I want to announce a momentous change in my shaving routine. I’ll start with a picture:

This was my shaving den this morning, from the used razor jar at the top left to my extensive cologne collection at the bottom right.

Some of you may recall that I mastered science a few years back. After extensive research, I have reengineered my den to better reflect my needs, and also to improve it ergonomically. Mind you, this is years in the making, so please no protestations that I’m being rash or impulsive. I’m rather pleased with myself. Here is a picture taken just a few minutes ago:

As you can plainly see, I now have solved an issue that has vexed me for years. Note the brush more to the center of the cabinet, and the AS lateral to it. Now when I reach for my brush to begin my shave, I no longer bump my hand against the AS while doing so. AND when I put my brush away, I can easily grasp the AS, the last software product I require. I’m happy with the new ease and efficiency that this change has brought, but I must admit that I’m a little bit displeased with myself for all the precious time wasted over the years - you just can’t get that time back (sigh).

Enjoy your shaves, Cadre, and please feel free to share this revelation with anyone who might benefit from this. Don’t EVER let anyone tell you that education is a waste of time!

That is all. 😊

Well done, Bruce, but there's still improvements to be made. Swapping the positions of post-shave elixer and the adjacent aftershave will place said aftershave closer to the container edge, thereby providing additional non-tipping support to it.

🤔 Thanks Sam. I will keep this in mind, though it feels very Canadian to me, though I have great respect for Canada. After all, were it not for the Canadian fishing boat Caroline Rose, I would not exist. It rescued my 19 year old father and his shipmates just off Halifax after their ship (Halma) was sunk by U-Boat 119 on 6/3/42. If interested in U-Boat history (WWI & WWII), The U-boat Wars 1939-1945 (Kriegsmarine) and 1914-1918 (Kaiserliche Marine) and Allied Warships of WWII - uboat.net is a treasure trove of historical information.
BTW, Caroline Rose was one of the fishing vessels engraved on Canadian $20 bills for years.
Yes! I’m a firm believer in science. 👍👍

Good afternoon, Cadre. First report on my new-look shaving den (see above if behind on your reading). The improved efficiency was evident by my finishing up 2.3 seconds sooner than before my reengineering project. For now, I’m sticking to U.S. shaving standards, but I may try Sam’s Canadian setup in the future. Regardless, it now appears that I will save seconds daily, which will add up to days > weeks > months > perhaps even years, God willing. I may need to start a spreadsheet, just like Sam, though mine will be a U.S. standard spreadsheet. Those bilingual metric spreadsheets simply confuse and frustrate me, TBH.

Enjoy your shaves. Feel free to DM me for additional insights into stepping up your shave den game. 👍
