2025 Eucris Lathering Challenge

18 April

Today I used some grated Eucris with distilled water. Wrung out brush.
Got a good amount of subpar pseudo lather. Adding additional water and it exploded with bubble-bath worthy foam. Still good and slick. Left the foam in the accumulator. We’ll see how much remains when it dries.

Ok, Mr Fancy Pants. When I first looked at your post I was wondering why there was an ad under your picutres.

Puck Load, Palm lather. Synthetic brush

Today I soaked the puck for about a minute prior to loading. Loaded with a damp brush until I felt like it wasn't taking on any more soap. I palm lathered with paint brush strokes to try to get it to take the air out and thicken up. Paint brush application on the face , got slightly thicker, but still not anywhere near a creamy lather. Held up decent on the face, only slight dissipation from where it started. Second pass, again was very lacking and dissipated quickly.

Used the Spider Williams method. Wet my face, rubbed the puck chunk on my face and with a few drops of water on my finger tips, hand lathered. Got fairly good lather.....but it also dissipated as I was shaving. Hand lathering on each quadrant of my face seems to give me enough time to shave before the lather evaporates. This is definitely not a high lather soap.

Ok. Two days of shaving. No days of lather.

4/18:

Synthetic brush. Light bloom water on the puck, dry brush. Heavy load (60 seconds), dripped a few drops of water on the puck, then another 30 seconds of load. Then went to my face with only painting strokes. This led to a very thin covering of soap
IMG_0481.jpegWhich was slick but barely looked like a lather at all

So made a few painting strokes while pressing the brush into my face to add just a little air. This created a little bulk, but not much of a result. IMG_0483.jpegIMG_0484.jpegLather was very airy/foamy despite my effort to introduce very little air. Oh well.

4/19:
Best badger brush. Wet the brush, squeezed the water out into the mug and let that sit for my shave. Then did a load until the soap looked ok on the brush. Went to my face to paint and got an ok result.

Will probably take a break for Easter tomorrow but I’ll be back at this next week.

The accumulator had a very different substance in it today. It was not like dried up foam. Rather, it was kind of a slurry with some lumps. I added some more grated soap to maximize the load. Using a synthetic brush and distilled water, I managed a rather thick lather like foam.

Shaving with my Vector was quite satisfactory. But despite the thickness of the foam, it still dissipated as before. I have used what I estimate to be 3 or 4 times the amount of product normally used for a bowl of lather. I think perhaps next try, I shall apply the slurry to my face and try to lather as with a cream.

Are you surprised?

I am not. 😂😂😂

Ok. Take 6

Maybe the fan shaped knot has been letting in too much air? So went with a synthetic bulb knot.

5 drops of water on the soap and loaded with a dry brush. Got a thick paste.

Started to paint on my damp face and kept getting nothing. Eventually got a thin layer of slick stuff (not a lather). More working eventually got to something a little better than the big bubbles which worked fine for a 3 pass shave. Not the best method, but maybe something here?

Bowl lather. Boar brush

Yesterday was a bit of a rushed shave with a boar brush. Aside form switching the brush I didn't do too much to try to improve the lather. Today, I soaked the soap for a few minutes, loaded a bunch, then attempted to bowl lather. I tried to bowl lather slowly to puch air out, but it didn't work like palm lathering does. No matter what I did, I was just adding more air. Then I tried to add water, and that didn't help things either.

Overall I'm finding that no matter what I do, the resulting lather is similar and the shaves are about the same,

Well, I thought I’d have a paste. But I left the brush I the bowl for some reason. (Look! A Squirrel!) A rapid dip of the tip of the brush got enough water to bring the foam back to its previous..uh.. splendor?
IMG_2084.jpeg

I diverged a bit from my plan and tried using a Preshave. (PAA’s galactic cube) and painting the foam onto that. And it produced actual lather. This diverges from my intent as the cube is a soap product in itself. I’m starting to believe that short of an additive, it may not be possible to get Eucris to do anything other than foam. Still good and slick, but no cushion. Because Preshave soap was introduced into the accumulator, I rinsed it out and will start fresh.

I think this is a product that needs a boost. I’m going to give it another go with preshave and see because that was the best looking lather anybody has gotten yet around here.
