TSC's July 2023 Sumo Grand Tourney Contest

Thoughts on today:
  • Atimafuji brought the fire up from Juryo, its like he wants to roll with the big boys!
[*]Ochia was defeated by EXPERIENCE, this is the only thing this youngster is missing. I've read some people saying they think he will be an Ozeki or Yokozuna in the next year. I find that hard to imagine with the experience gap between him and the others in the top division.
[*]Takayasu just needed a tournament off to recover, he's having a great start! Big Hokuseiho shooting for the Henka was funny. I think you should actually be fast for that to work. Taka had him figured out!
[*] URA what a MATCH, he was all over the place. He is seriously one of the best to watch even when he loses.
[*]Asanoyama charged back after his first-day loss to Meisei, with a well-fought bout from both sides. Hiradoumi put up a great fight too!
[*]Abi is pulling it together, I'd be surprised if he doesn't make it back up to Sanyaku soon.
[*]Even with Kotonowaka's win over Mitakeume, I still feel like his sumo is weak. I keep wondering if he's not battling some health issues.
[*]Daiasho, with the absolute BLAST OUT POWER of an ozeki just demolished Midorifuji
[*]My boy Nishikigi tore up poor Hoshoryu's balance today. Sad to see him loose, because I'd love to see him make Ozeki, but he still has a lot more matches.
[*]WAKAMOTOHARU was HANDLED by Shodai, who likes to show up with his previous Ozeki power, only when he's facing sanyaku who are up for promotion. Wish he would show off that power more often.
[*] loads to say about Terunofuji's match against Tobizru. Wow, Tobizru had some heart! Terunofuji looked utterly defeated and weak in the knee after the match! What an amazing fight. Really thankful Tobizaru didn't end up nude.

I feel like Terunofuji may withdraw from the tournament. He was breathing so hard and even had to place his hands on his attendant's shoulders at one point. It did not look good for his left knee.

I was worried that Teru was going to fall stepping down after the match. he was super wobbly. Also, Abi is Komosubi right now isn't he?

Shodai is probably the most frustrating rikishi. He has the strength and ability to be a yokozuna but refuse to apply himself the whole basho.

Shodai is a bum! He only seems to try about 30% of the time, the other 70% he seems to be just going through the motions.

I can’t find any news stories about Teru. But I did see confirmation that Kirishima is back for Day 4.

Side note, searching for info on Kirishima is a challenge, because it’s also the name of an anime character.

Nishikigi  Just beating up our OZeki hopefuls

IKR This may be his Basho! Then again, you also have the newbie Gonoyama beating up the lower Maegashira ranks too!

I would love to see Takayasu take it all, but I just don't think he has it in him.... Too many times a bridesmaid.

Gosh, I just rewatched Tobizaru V Teru! My gosh Teru looked BAD after the match! They haven't said what was wrong with him yet, unfortunately.

That last leg kick by Tobi likely did it, a savage and totally legal move!

Day 4 Natto said something about a herniated disk i think for Teru. But yeah he did not look ok.

Anyone else feel like Hokuseho has stepped up his aggression this basho? I'm really curious to see where things sit at the start of week 2.

URA!!!!!!!! In consistent at times but arguably the most exciting Rikishi
