Ramblings of a MilkCrate

We haven't put up a tree for a few years now. Our cats miss it, I'm sure!

We skipped it for a couple of years when the nest emptied. The wife started missing the decorations and we started back up. She said it didn’t feel the same without the decorations.

Just a quick update on this one. Kept all the variables the same and was rewarded with the same great shave. This one checks all the boxes for me.

After the dry down and another post shave check, I hit it with home brew #2 AS. This is full on hippy ... straight up Patchouli. Oh yeah!

I need to send Chris a PM with more details on the shave. I’m not posting all the details publicly so I don’t influence anyone’s tests. life is good!

Another quick(ish) review. Same hardware, but I changed the soap and AS. You guys are probably familiar enough with my shave routine, so I’ll skip that today.

Looking back, I think this soap is thirstier. Just like soap #1, the lather was dense. But this one didn’t have the volume of the last soap. The slickness and residual slickness wasn’t really there, but improved as it went. This makes me think the soap is thirstier because I was rinsing between each pass. I did walk away BBS, so there is that. Post shave is nice and clean. I guess somewhat moisturized, but not as good as soap #1. So there’s my 2 cents, spend it wisely.

Gave it plenty of time to dry down, then hit it with the Florida Water ... Life is good!

Home Front-
Cold and raining ... yuck. Not really the way I wanted to start my vaca. Hm.

Late morning shave today and it was glorious. Of course most late morning shaves are. Am I right? Anyway I abandoned my MF 3017 and the test soaps that interrupted that. I just got this new soap in and had to give it a shot. Smell on the puck is nice, so I grabbed my kit and got to it. 30 second load time with a fairly wet brush and it built a nice lather with a yogurt consistency. The scent held through the entire shave and was great. No need to mention Stirling’s performance, it is very nice. Great scents and an extensive product line at reasonable prices. I have a few Stirling sets in my rotation.

40 laps on leather and it was go time. I went with my standard three pass shave of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. An awesome shave and I am BBS for the win! Oh yeah! I smeared on the remaining lather to soak while I cleaned up the kit. The Reynolds is a razor from the Mystery box and it now sports a keen, very smooth edge. I dig it. You may notice in my pics, my razors aren’t show queens. They are old and look old. I knock the chunky stuff off and hone them up. They won’t win a beauty contest, but man they can shave.

Wrapped everything up with a rinse and a drip dry. A healthy splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! Yes ... yes it was. The splash hits with a different note than the soap. I think I smell a citrus, but what do I know. Then the other notes join in and I can’t pick anything out. It does smell great and the post shave feel is spot on. I am ready for the day. Life is good!

Sounds like a great scent, and Stirling has always pretty much set the standard for performance at price. Nothing wrong with an older looking straight razor. As someone who spent years painting decorative finishes, I can tell you that people pay extra for the distressed look. :p
