What shall we 3017 in January 2021

What soap should we 3017?

Stirling and Lisa's should both be soft enough to be an easy kill. Mystic Water should also fit into that category, but I am less sure. Modern Williams goes quickly once the puck becomes saturated from daily use. Victory Shaving is the real wildcard. The soap is really firm

If we end up doing Stirling, I will be happy to send you a tub with matching splash, Bob. But part of the fun is patronizing the selected artisan.

I have the poll going until the 16th, but I may call it early so that folks have a chance to get a tub ordered in time to start on January 1.
But... Stirling weighs in around 6oz, whereas I believe the new Lisa's are 4oz (and the original loose clay pucks are 3.5?). The original Lisa's are nowhere near cream-like, though.

Yes, but Stirling is soft enough that as the 3017 goes on it should become more and more cream-like, since the soap won't ever completely dry out. As this happens it should become easier to "load it like you hate it." Also, pro tip, you should be favoring your most lather hogging brushes during a 3017. You don't have to use them all the time, but they should get a bunch of use.

Still, you have a point. Even with the additional moisture, the extra ~2 ounces (I think Stirling's tubs are actually filled to about 5.8 ounces.) will take more time than a 4 ounce tub. I should point out that there are a bunch of 3 ounce tubs of Stirling floating around out there. If you have one of those available that is a valid target for a 3017, if we do Stirling.

Ooh, yes! Forgot about those. In fact, they have a whole new lineup for this shopping season (it's posted somewhere...). Would make for a great pre-3017 order. I believe all of the soaps have matching splashes, too.

Edit: Yep, they still have them on sale. It's 3oz soaps and 2oz splashes in: Alighieri , Iced Coffee , Iniquity for Him , Lavender Sage , Scarn , Stirling Green , Tangerine.

No no no. Just trying to be helpful. Soap is the only change in my den. I need SOME diversity from day to day. [emoji6]

It is more about enjoying and getting the most out of the chosen product, than about getting to the finish line as quickly as possible. I don't really care how much of the soap there is, I just want to enjoy the journey of using it. For some it might be a shared slog to the end, but this is the way I normally approach shaving.

I am working on a 6 ounce tub of Heritage Hill right now, and it is slow going. I am 25-ish shaves into the tub and, based on visual inspection, it appears that I have used less than 1/3 of the product. That doesn't mean I am going to stop or that I don't like it. I am enjoying every shave. The only thing that is going to stop me from continuing to use it is the fact that I have a couple of Christmas soaps that I want to pull out for a few uses and this event that I am planning. After they are over, I plan to return to this tub and finish it. I also have a tin of S&V Felce Aromatica that I have around 40 shaves on. I will be returning to that to finish as well.

Apologies gents, but I'm unfamiliar with the guidelines of 3017 soap sinking. Are we committing to use the same soap every day until that tub is empty or simply using the said tub often enough to sink it over the course of 2021?

That one tub alone till its gone. I think we normally have a few cheat shaves we can use but otherwise its about taking the one you choose from start to finish.

Thanks for the clarification, Kyle. I love the variety of using many different soaps each week so will sit this one out. However, I do appreciate the motivation to so a modified version and pick one soap to use up over the course of the year. Think I'll pick one soap that I use on a certain day of each week and that should get me close to sinking it by the end of 2021.

One final bump before this closes tomorrow at 8:06PM Mountain Time.
If we don't get a tie breaker between Stirling and Lisa's Natural, it will be a shaver's choice 3017 between the two (and possibly one or more others).

I plan to go with Stirling (if we end up having a choice), since I have a ton of it in my den. Also, I think I have yet to do a 3017 on a tub of Stirling.

After the poll closes I will be posting the actual 3017 thread. At that time participants should start getting orders placed so that they have soap (and possibly AS, EdT, etc.) in hand to get started on January 1.

Well, we have a winner. It is going to be Lisa's!
