Just as the title states. What do you reach for when you need a shave. But are not sure what you are in the mood for?

For me it's usually a non artisan like Cella, Haslinger or Arko.

But sometimes I reach for an artisan soap I haven't used in a while.

I guess it's more of a I'm not really feeling like any of my good artisan scents in my rotation are calling out to me, at that moment? Just want a shave and get on with my day.

When I’m not sure, I usually still reach for something that fits my normal pick pattern - shower days I reach for lighter, fresher scents and non shower days I usually reach for something a little stronger and darker on scent.

When I am not 3017ing I grab for something within easy reach that I don't have to dig through the pile for. When I am in the middle of a 3017, I don't have this problem.

I keep a puck of RazoRock’s “What the Puck?!” Blue Label soap on the caddy in my shower. Whenever I’m in a hurry or undecided on what to use I simply grab it, rub it on my face and make the lather with my brush. Great scent (Blue Floid) and great performance and because it’s a very hard soap (a-la MWF), it has last for a long time constantly being exposed to the heat, water and steam of the shower.

Just curious. What stronger, darker scents are in your rotation?

Dude, it's the guys that don't think they smell that you get stuck standing next to in line!
Not sure what is says then that I still end up the best smelling person in my work and social groups the vast majority of the time 🤷‍♂️

Barrister & Mann Reserve Lavender and The Body Shop Maca Root shave cream both fill that role for me. Simple scents that work year round and go with just about anything, and fantastic performance with both.

I leave four creams sitting on one of the shelves because the creams are pretty quick to whip up a lather in the bowl and go. My fav of the bunch is Musgo Real Lavender. However, Proraso Green, Red and Nivea SC are all at hand with matching or complimentary AS. The rest of the soaps are all in a rotation...

Well today was one of those days.

Down with a head cold. Don't have much sense of smell either. Just felt like a 3 pass shave and hoped it would turn out decent.

So I reached for the Derby stick and loaded it up heavy on my face and brush. Shave turned out just as I had hoped.
