Vacations, Voyages, Adventures, and Journeys!

I recently took a trip to Washington DC. This was a faith formation leadership training for the Knights of Columbus as I enter year two of their Fellowship program.

This was my first time visiting DC. I'll be back next year where we will get to play tourist more.

We did a night tour, attended the St. JPII shrine, attended the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and visited Arlington.

We usually fly United, but Alaska worked out better for the flight out to DC. I’m pretty the welcome right next to the plane main door would have ruined all of Steven’s vacation.

Did a ton today with only official plans for a White House tour first thing in the morning. I’d say it was interesting to see, but underwhelming. The portraits were cool and seeing the views outside from the White House rooms. The current WH florist also did our wedding, so I was need to see the same style in the bouquets around the building.

Then off to the Library of Congress which, to me, is still some of the most beautiful images I’ve seen in DC.

Jefferson’s original library and replacements to complete it.

Then we walked to the Library of Congress office building and had lunch in their cafeteria. Then, my dad is a retired Methodist minster, there was a 100th celebration for the Methodist building which is right next to the Supreme Court (it was there before the Supreme Court building) and across from the Capital. He didn’t want to push going, but I’m glad we did for him. He was on the national board of church and society and ran into a couple of people he knew from those days.

Then my wife wanted to see the rotunda of the Capital. We wandered over there and hit it just right to grab a tour without having reservations. I would say this was very cool to see. Worth the stop I’d say.
