Two bay rums, Lather and Wood and High Thyme Farmacy

Hi there,

I bought two bay rum soaps from Amazon just as a comparison. I really like both barbershop scents from High Thyme Farmacy and Lather and Wood. I know there are zillions of bay rum soaps and creams and aftershaves out there. I will say that I was disappointed in the one from High Thyme Farmacy but very enthusiastic about the one from Lather and Wood. I think the reason I was disappointed in the HTF one was that I felt it really has a subtle scent. The one from L&W has a much more pronounced scent of typical cloves and cinnamon. Now, full disclosure I haven't lathered fully with either, they just showed up today/yesterday.

And as we all know, going down the bay rum rabbit hole drains the pocket book and makes one wonder where to keep all those damn pucks. I'm probably bringing the HTF one down to my GFs place and keeping the L&R one here.

So I just thought I'd post as a few observations. I have not ventured into the den of PAA with their atomic bay rum, what I'd love to find is bay rum from say the 1930s or earlier even.

I assume you mean aftershaves, because I've never seen or heard of a bay rum soap that old.

I think I've only come across one bottle of Bay Rum that was that old. It is from Rexall Drug Store and I'm pretty sure it's spoiled. One of the oldest Bay Rum's you can readily find is from Avon, which dates back to the 60s. Avon did make Bay Rum back in the 30's and their predecessor, California Perfume Company, did back to the late 1800s, but fining those bottles empty is hard enough. But their stuff from the 60s and 70s is some of the best bay rum I've ever tried.

PAA Has several great bay rum offerings. The Atomic Age Bay Rum is phenomenal in both scent and performance. One of the best bay rums out there. The Coconut Bay w/ Lime and Pineapple Bay Rum are great summer scents. I'll echo what @Spider said about vintage Avon bay rum AS. Great stuff!
