Things I suggest not to do, etc....

Some good advice on what not to do. Very interesting on the concept of scooping the lather off. Now that I think about my imitation Feather SS I've been using, it does feel a lot like scooping the lather off.

Because I'm using my Feather SS knock-off. and DE, I do notice my lather keeping only one half of that equation happy. What works great for my DE is definitely not wet enough for the Feather SS knock-off. I had to take a break from the open blade today and just use it on the first pass. I had some irritation on the cheeks. I know it's not pressure, but think it's because I was doing pass 1 and 2 90% with the open blade and then going over it with the DE to clean up anything I missed. That's just too much blade action for my skin I think.

The guy at work that let be borrow the imitation Feather SS saw me for the first time since I've been back from surgery and asked me how it's going. He was plenty happy I've been using it more. I told him about winning Kyle's PIF and the SR. He asked why I hadn't jumped on it yet and I told him I wanted a good chunk of time and he said "Well, get your sorry butt up 15 minutes early and use that thing!" He's right

In my opinion DO NOT use a shavette, they are not more forgiving and require a solid foundation in technique whether it be a DE shavette or Feather system. Start with a STRAIGHT a REAL straight, less pivot point concerns, heavier, and a round tip is the most forgiving blade in a straight. "Barber Razors" do not exist,. It is a name given for disposable blade straight. Only reason they have this name is many states now require them for barbers, and the only reason for this was the blood born scare from HIV, which with a 10-15 second dunk in "Barbacide" renders the razor sterile. Thankfully some states still allow the use of a real straight razor professionally, thus allowing to keep the history alive Use a real straight. If you are going to jump in the pool..... Jump, don't wade your toes in.
