SOTD May 2026

I don’t know - we’re going to my in-laws for Shabbat supper and whatever my mother-in-law serves will be better than good enough. She’s a fantastic cook and hostess - she doesn’t know how to make blintzes because she’s Sephardic of Moroccan origin. Strangely enough my wife makes delicious blintzes because my Mom of dearly loved and blessed memory gave her a great recipe!

Jeff
Im sure you'll enjoy whatever your mother-in-law serves. I forgot that blintzes are an Ashkenazi dish. TBH, my wife does not know how to make blintzes. Her grandmother, Z''l, made them and they were fabulous. My wife ordered them from a local restaurant. We have them frequently.

May 23, 2026 (Mystic May Every Other Day)
  • Bowl: Doug Smith Pottery – Ceramic Shave Bowl
  • Brush: Semogue – 1470 (Boar)
  • Razor: Muhle – R41 (Black)
  • Blade: Lord – Super Stainless
  • Soap: Mystic Water – Orange Vanilla
  • Aftershave: Lucky Tiger – After Shave and Face Tonic
  • Balm: Stirling – Unscented Post Shave Balm
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Co. – Seaforth! Black Watch EDT
I wanted to mention that Michelle Burns from Mystic Water popped into out Mystic May thread. I encourage you to stop by and say hello to Michelle and ask her any questions you may have. She really is a wonderful person, on top of being a talented artisan. It has been wonderful to part of Mystic May and to be introduced to TSC. I have enjoyed getting to know some of you and to see and read your cool SOTDs.

It is supposed to be a bit colder this weekend before heating up some next week. This is a good time to use Orange Vanilla from Mystic Water. It smells sweet (though not cloying) and some days it leans more citrus and some days it leans more vanilla. The scents are incredibly natural and focused. This is not candy, this is real orange, tangerine, and vanilla. As Michelle says, “Sweet orange and tangerine peel essential oils blended with Madagascar vanilla. The soap turns brown due to the vanilla content.”

I am not a huge fan of the Lucky Tiger aftershave anymore, but I will finish this bottle. I have been craving a more orange focused citrus aftershave, but I am not entirely sure what that might be. Perhaps Eleven will have something for me to check out. I have been pleased with their balm and very impressed by their use of citrus essential oils. However, their base isn’t so great in my opinion. Still, it is nice to think there might be more that I can purchase from them. I love to support folks from the Midwest. The Black Watch is lovely and I enjoy having a chance to wear it whenever I can.

Have an awesome day, friends!

Saturday's Cold Water Shave

Cold Water Rinse
Williams Mug Shave Soap
Jayaruh #425 Synthetic
Schick J3 Golden 500
Personna Injector Blade
CWR
Humphrey's Witch Hazel
Brute After Shave

I started with the cold water rinse. The Williams lathered well with the Jayaruh #425. I did two passes with the Schick J3 Golden 500 razor with a Personna injector blade. After a cold water rinse, I finished with Humphrey's Witch Hazel and Brute Classic After Shave. I am now clean, smooth, and refreshed.

A great shave this afternoon with Razorock's Don Marco, and the Rockwell 6s on R-2. I used the menthol pre-shave soap and mentholated aftershave to add a little chill. BBS finish.

Happy shaves!

Saturday morning’s Grand Freeze:

Tepid shower
Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
Super Speed/Perma Sharp day 7
MSC Frosted Bay Rum SS
Gold Bond Moisturizer
MSC Frosted Bay Rum AS Splash

Oh la la this Frosted Bay Rum…….the scent is absolutely GORGEOUS. IMHO it’s the most brilliant bay rum I’ve ever had - the soap is a tallow based with magnificent lather that’s so thick, rich, super slick as well as protective, the menthol sensation is really strong, and it’s so gentle on my sensitive skin. The Gold Bond moisturizer felt so cooling and soothing, not to mention how frigid the Frosted Bay Rum aftershave felt - its delightful scent lasts for most of the day. Another wonderful three pass BBS shave that was so much fun!

Enjoy your day and your shaves - be well and stay safe!

Hello everyone! Hope you had a pleasant evening.

Today's shave wins the week! Returned to my Valobra rea TAOS shave soap. This is truly a wonderful soap with a lather that is thick, slick and cushioning. Three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel, Ogallala "Bay Rum, Limes & Peppercorns" aftershave splash & CBL Premium Barber Powder.

BBS bliss!!

Hope you have a great day. :)
