Thursday's Cold Water Shave

Cold Water Rinse
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap
Jayaruh #277
Darwin-Stoll Jr. 3D
Personna GEM SS PTFE Blade
Cold Water Rinse
Humphrey's Witch Hazel
Aqua Velva Musk AS

The Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap face-lathered well with Jayaruh #277 Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Darwin-Stoll Jr. 3D razor and the Personna GEM SS PTFE Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Humphrey's Witch Hazel and Aqua Velva Musk After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

19 February, 2026

Hello everyone! Hope you had a pleasant evening.

Fantastic shave this morning! Returned to my classic Crabtree & Evelyn for Men shave soap & splash. Wonderful Old School scent with an incredibly thick and slick lather built with the RajonCajon synth for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel, the matching aftershave lotion & PAA "Crabapple & Newton" EdC.

BBS bliss!!

Hope you have a great day. :)

Thursday morning:

Hot shower
Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
Super Speed/Super Platinum day 7
PAA Cold Spices SS
Lubriderm Moisturizer
PAA Cold Spices AS Splash

Thank goodness it won’t be long before I finish off this Cold Spices garbage - then I can forget about it once and for all. I must say that I had a great three pass BBS shave but I didn’t enjoy it so much. As I said many times before, I think this stuff would be much better if there was any menthol in it. The cooling sensation isn’t strong but it has an adverse effect on the scent. Anyway, tomorrow morning it’ll be something that I love - stay tuned!

Wishing you all a nice day - be well and stay safe!

how do you like those Astras? (They're the Indian Astras; correct?) I've found that the "new" India Astras; while sufficiently cutting the stubble, leave my skin post shave with redness, which I don't get when I use my Russian Astras. Just wondering what your thoughts are?

Jeff, PAA is releasing a true homage to the original Shulton Old Spice this weekend. It's called Outer Spice. From what I can tell, no menthol. Doug's goal here is just to match Shulton Old Spice as close as possible. There are a number of reviews on YouTube. Check it out.

Brian, to me the soap with the closest scent to Shulton Old Spice is the Barrister & Mann Spice. Although it’s not cheap I think it was money very well spent because it’s not only beautifully scented, it’s also such a great performer - the lather is so thick, rich, super slick, as well as protective, and it gives a wonderful postshave feeling. I hope one day to try the Stirling Spice soap and I have the eau de toilette which is another carbon copy of the Shulton Old Spice aftershave or cologne. Before I discovered that I was freaked out over the Vintage Spice soap and aftershave from Master Soap Creations in South Africa which I thought was bang on but the B&M and Stirling stuff somehow pushed it aside. The two You Tube videos look really good but I don’t plan to buy this stuff because of personal reasons. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind but for right now I’ll hold off and stick with what I have. If only I could find my Shulton Old Spice mug with the puck and the two brand new backups I have I would be the happiest guy on Planet Earth!

Thanks for the info and the two videos Akhi!

Thanks. This was a Russian Astra. I have a sleeve of 100 Indian Astras but actually I haven't opened it yet. I like the Russian Astras a lot and I'm almost 1/2 the way through that sleeve. I've had them for years.

I've heard nothing but good things about B&M's soap base and Will's scents. I have a tub of unscented from B&M. It performs wonderfully and it is vegan. I don't care if a soap is vegan or tallow as long as it performs. Stirling's soaps are all tallow and they are superb. The nice thing with Stirling is you can buy a 1oz sample puck and give it a go. They have a lot to choose from. I understand why you are not a fan of PAA. I've heard some stories. I do like their brushes and preshave soaps, but I'm not a huge fan of all their crazy scents. I mostly use very light scents or unscented because of my wife's allergies. Enjoy your shaves.
