Soaps on the Road

beginish

The Dr. Who of the TSC
Who likes dragging around ceramic or wooden bowls of soap in the Dopp kit? What soaps are your faithful companions on the road? I have two sticks of QED’s glycerin-based soaps, Bathtub Gin and Rosie. Charles’s hand with fragrances is as good as anyone’s and I use these sticks exclusively on the road.

Since I face lather with synthetics, I can pretty much take whatever I can fit in the Dopp kit, not that an adequate bowl would take up too much more space, it could fit at least a soap in it. That usually means though two smaller soaps (2 oz or shave stick) or one regular sized tub.

Normally I have the La Toja shave stick on hand. This trip I’m on now, I opted to leave that for a small Catie’s Bubbles tub.

My light travel set

598
22mm synthetic brush in pill bottle
G type injector
Glue stick container full of Arko

Sticks only unless it's a long enough trip to unpack my suitcase. Right now it's a Haslinger Aloe stick in my bag.

I like taking samples with me. Also, CBL has done a few soaps in 2oz size and those are perfect for travel.

I do the same as the @Spider man. I have a box of samples that supply the Dopp kit. I take the same copper bowl in my Dopp kit that I use every day.

I have a tube of DR Harris sandalwood cream I use on short trips.
When I visit home I wind up buying a lot of soap since the North American Artisans are king.

I know a lot of people like to save space with travel kits and all. I am kind of the opposite. I pretty much bring a full shaving setup. The only thing I don't bring is a mug or bowl. But otherwise...its full sized everything for the Don.

I just travel with tubes of cream. In the past I was usually traveling for business so I wanted something that was quick and easy and cream fit that bill perfectly. I still just bring the tubes of cream as I like to keep things simple and easy. But I bring a nice sized polished chrome lather bowl with cover and a full size RR Plissoft brush so I can bowl lather. If I want to use a soap on the road I can always bring a sample and scoop a little out, let it soak in a little water in the bowl and lather away.

Do you have issues with TSA if you try to bring them in a carry on?

I put all my liquids, including the tube of shave cream, into a TSA compliant bag. The tubes are 2.5oz. of TOBS cream. So they comply. I have small little nalgene bottles for witch hazel and aftershave splash. All my hardware goes in my dopp kit. Since I'm always carrying on I leave the double edge at home and bring my Mach 3. That is the price I pay for carrying my bags on and one I'm willing to live with. I'll settle for only being able to take the double edge when I check bags or travel by car.

Truth be told, I'm pretty much a shave stock guy these days, which makes it very easy to travel. Even my travel brush (Omega silvertip mighty midget) fits perfectly into an old La Toja stick container.
