I don't use mine often, much prefering the My Nik is Sealed.

If I get a bleeder, I find the Styptic works well to stop it quick. Not so fast with alum. These aren't the same ingredients are they? Or does it have something to do with the "grainy" texture of the Styptic pencil that lends to the quick fix? Curious.

Alum blocks are made of natural potassium alum... styptic pencils are made from anhydrous aluminum sulfate
 
Never added mine. Same length as when gotten with a purchase from another country. Not sure of make. Little use but works when it's needed. Anyone that knows anything bout it, I'm all ears.............or eyes.
