Alum blocks are made of natural potassium alum... styptic pencils are made from anhydrous aluminum sulfateIf I get a bleeder, I find the Styptic works well to stop it quick. Not so fast with alum. These aren't the same ingredients are they? Or does it have something to do with the "grainy" texture of the Styptic pencil that lends to the quick fix? Curious.
