Scott's Singing and Shaving Journal

So, yesterday I took my lathering bowl in hand and threw it as far as I could hurl it, then went and picked it up and threw it again. What caused such an outpouring of violence, you may rightly ask? Making proper lather isn't like falling down stairs, and not every mouth breather can do it. With enough time and practice, any mouth breather should be able to create lather porn; yet, this mouth breather has struggled with getting consistent results. Too watery? You bet. Too dry? Mhmm. Too airy? Definitely. Just right? Occasionally. And then, I remembered the Italian barberia way. Suddenly, my quest for thick, slick, consistent, lather was at an end. No great mystery or technique to it. Dry puck of soap, well soaked brush wrung out nearly dry again, 5 or 6 swirls gently pushing the bristles of my brush into the dry puck, dunk the brush in hot water, work the soapy bristles between my fingers, and apply. Voila! I made unctuous lather for days right on my face! This mouth breather CAN be taught new tricks!

Face lathering is 100% the way to go. You can bowl lather and make something that looks perfect but doesn’t feel right. Who cares how it looks??? When you face lather, you build until it feels right, and it’s good for your shave every time!
