Sandalwood recommendations

I’m looking for a good Sandalwood cologne recommendation. I’ve been wet shavings for 23 years, and just recently discovered Proraso sandalwood. It’s doing wonders for my heavy Italian stubble, but the scent is incredible..anyway, tried Trumpers sandalwood, and wasnt too impressed..Taylor’s either.
.

I haven’t found another sandalwood that smells like Proraso yet. Most smell sweet or are mixed with other fragrances.

I recently scored DR Harris sandalwood and really like it. I didn’t care for Taylor at all, but DR Harris is not a straight up sandalwood either. I’ve heard about Ethos Mysore sandalwood, but it’s way above my price point. Good luck in your search.

I second the D.R. Harris, it’s a very enjoyable scent. The only other recommendation I have is to search out some vintage colognes, they seem to be the better options.

I really like the Sandalwood Aftershave from Captain's Choice.

One of the best and truest Sandalwood scents is from Ethos Grooming. His Mysore Santal EDT and aftershave use "100% Pure Mysore Sandalwood Essential Oil and Mysore Wood Chips infusion."

Proraso is really one of the best Sandalwoods out there now. It's what I think of when I think Sandalwood. D.R Harris is a great scent, but I mostly get the aromatic, camphorous side of it.
I haven't tried the Ethos, but I'd love too, my guess it's the best out there now.
Geo F Trumper also has a highly rated sandalwood, a lot of people say it's the best but can't vouch for it.

Also love Proraso Red…though AOS Sandalwood tops my list.

Haven’t been fortunate to try Frank’s/Ethos’ Sandalwood…I have no doubt it’s top shelf though.

If money is no object look on the secondary market for Crabtree & Evelyn Mysore sandalwood. The best i have ever had. But be prepared for North of $350.00 if you can find. I still have an original bottle from 1987 that i use once I ever had. It was actually an extract parfum and back then was a whopping $37.95. LOL. Worth it at todays prices if you can find it

Fragrances like that only come around once or twice in a lifetime. It has the same mystique in my opinion as the original YSL rove gauche pout homme.

Just my 2 cents

This is the ‘best’ answer, but I didn’t want to mention in since it’s so pricy now. I remember it from back in the day, and it’s the gold standard.

You’re right, that never occurred to me. Trumper makes a great sandalwood cream and skin food. I bet the cologne is pretty good too. Thanks for the tip.

Ethos Mysore Santal
Top notch stuff from an artisan vendor.

Closest match from the more mainstream guys is Trumper Sandalwood (the skin food is actually the one that’s the best match for my nose)
