Ramblings of a MilkCrate

What the hell kind of marketing is that? It's a fougere, but it's marketed as sandalwood? I thought I was irrational and borderline insane, geez.

I enjoyed your ramblings today, Tim. Glad the pupper is doing better, too.

Thanks Ben! Since they were just grabbing a random base note for a name, they could call it rock rose.

What about holiday fruitcake margarita bomb? I think that's a lot more catchy and also has nothing to do with the notes 😂

All caught up Tim! As far as the Sandalwood argument, I only have experience with Proraso Red, The Art of Shaving cream, and Razorock Santal Royale. None of those smell like flowers those haha

The Process-
From the mail call I got yesterday, I am rocking the Triumph. I can’t pick a single note out of this soap. But it’s blended well and has a light, fresh scent to my nose. Went with a 30 second load time and whipped up a really nice lather. Had enough for the shave and post shave, but I really could have gone with a 20 second load. Has the typical Stirling performance, which is great. This one is a keeper.

Today I used the DSC brush which I really like. This brush is soft, splays well and has plenty of backbone. This brush is on the inexpensive side and is a really good value. 24mm knot blah, blah, blah. The reason for my Vulfix or VDH was to have a smaller brush in the 18-20mm range. My boars run on the smaller side. But I had my little rant yesterday about BS marketing, so let’s move on.

Went with a standard three pass shave of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. The Dovo did a fantastic job and I am BBS for the win!

Wrapped everything up with a splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! There is a slightly different scent with the AS, but the dry down matches the soap and is also light. I am curious about the longevity, but I smell great! Rod is killing the scents, I will probably end up with most of my rotation being Stirling soaps. Nothing wrong with that. Life is good!

The longevity was pretty decent for me. But I had the unfortunate benefit of doing physical labor to warm up the oils to activate the scent again. YMMV????

Nice rants, and nice mail call, Tim. I agree about the TOBS "Sandalwood" name - I don't detect any sandalwood either. To me, it's a spicy, ambery, powdery, floral concoction that I actually like. It's got "old" written all over it - perfect for me. But performance-wise, the hard soap is a low Tier 2/high Tier 3 for me, which I can still get good shaves with. And sounds like I need to try the Stirling "Triumph".

Thanks Chris! The Triumph is a nice scent, I like it. I also bought a sample of the Piacenza based on your review.

The Process-
Had been sniffing the Piacenza since it arrived and thought I would give it a try. To my nose it was Citrus forward and I don't have anything like that yet. So it will be on deck this week. It has a nice strong Citrus scent on the puck and that carried though the shave. I went with the VDH badger again and loaded the soap for 30 seconds. It produced plenty of lather for the shave and post shave. And you know the performance of Stirling. I will also be shelving the badger tomorrow and going back to a boar.

Went with a standard three pass shave of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. The Dovo did another fantastic job and I am BBS for the win! The razor is keen, but didn't feel as smooth as I would like. I think I'll hit that on the balsa a bit and see if I can smooth it back out.

Wrapped everything up with a splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! I hit it with the Florida Water and that was the wrong pairing. I really like the Florida Water, but it really pulled the scent in a different direction. I think I will switch to the Nivia ASB for future shaves to I can smell the dry down and see how the soap mellows. It was a really good shave and I can't wait to give it another go tomorrow.

Home front-
The Bulldog is doing a lot better, her skin issues are clearing up and the itching has subsided. She had her first appointment with a groomer yesterday and that also went well. She also scored a new toy and is living large. Worked on the W&B razor a bit this weekend, trying to pull out the frown. But I haven't had much success yet. I may switch over to the other razor and see if I can put an edge on that and then circle back to the W&B. That other razor does have some chips that will need to be removed, but that shouldn't be an issue. New week ahead and that's all I have at the moment. Life is good!

Her name is still Ellie :ROFLMAO:. You taking off Cadre Friday? Have a great day and drink water!
End of month so yardwork til 3 and then my wife will join me heading down to do the floors this evening after we take dinner to and visit with my parents. Sorta Cadre Friday. Both 80's and dad's got some things going on........

Shave mail. I received a couple of soap samples from @GlazedBoker. I’ll have to give them a try soon.

Wife saw the package which led to a soap discussion. She is welcome to use any soap I have and she has a couple of her own. I knew she had gone through the soaps last night because they weren’t put back just so. Anyway, she tried the Fat and she loves it! Looks like I’ll be sharing that one.

Changed a bit of the kit this morning. That alarm just came too early and I had to hit snooze. The VDH was shedding a bit and I was ready for a boar brush anyway. The Zenith has broken in really nice and is a soft touch. Hit the soap for 30 seconds again this morning and whipped up another really nice lather. I’m digging this scent.

Went with a standard three pass shave of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. Great shave ... easy peasy and I am BBS fir the win!

Wrapped everything up with a splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! Great shave and I am digging the scent. I will have to pick this up, along with the matching AS.

Same same. Life is good!

Good looking Old Type Tim. Say hey to Ellie !! Has she met Willie yet ? We should have a K9 section for them................

Thanks Dave!

She hasn’t meet Willie :ROFLMAO: But we also have two doxies, a black and tan and a red one. They just don’t get highlighted as much because there not sickly.
