The Details-
The only change I made today was the brush and aftershave. The Simpson hasn’t had much use and I think may have a bit to go before completely breaking in. The Simpson did whip up a nice lather though.

I’m also using this meat cleaver with a folding handle again. When I bought this one, the size really didn’t click in my head I guess. I changed my angle a bit and that did help. The edge is smooth, but could be a bit sharper I think. As I said, the angle change did help, but I am still DFS for the win! I am more familiar with the 5/8 hollows that I can whip around with reckless abandon. So ... the jury is still out on this one. I did find the artisan on IG and he has made a rather large number of custom razors. I sent him an email to get more details on this razor. Hopefully I’ll hear something soon.

I was back on the A sample today. My first impression really hasn’t changed, but I did apply heavy today. Wearing it heavy, it did come across a bit sweeter, but not bad. Man the scent fades so fast. Anyway, I’ll try the B sample again tomorrow and wear it heavy.

Home Front-
The missus hit the grocery store and picked up some great looking steaks. Those bad boys are going on the grill tonight. I am going bass fishing tomorrow, if the weather holds. I also have to work in a honing session or two this weekend. And I have some work work that I need to get caught up on ... dreading it and procrastinating at the moment. That’s all I got. Life is good!

Up way too early to go bass fishing, so yesterday’s shave was a quick splash and go shave.

The Details-
This mornings shave shave was fantastic. Switched to a 5/8 hollow and scored a very nice BBS for the win!

Today I went with the B sample and hit it heavy. I get different scents when I splash these heavy. The A sample smelled pretty much the same, except the fruity smell got sweeter. Not sickly candy sweet, but sweeter. The B sample, when applied heavy, seemed to have a peach scent come to the top. Not a sweet peach, but like the meat around the pit. I think I still like the A sample better than the B sample. But I would like the A to be a hint less sweet.

I also made time today to hone up the Reynolds razor. It was honed on a Naniwa 1k, 5k, 8k & 12k progression. And then taken to the Black Ark for final polishing. Then wrapped it up with 40 strokes on the leather. This will be shipped out on Monday to have Eric evaluate the edge for me. Life is good!

Ken @Maryland998 you had asked about the steel on this new to me wedge I picked up. I located the maker and he sent me the original listing
ECB5CF09-73FB-4205-9BDA-5267FACACA60.png

Ater a chat, he gave me the following info.

“The steel us O1 Tool Steel. The scales on yours are Bolivian Rosewood if I remember correctly”

Then he dropped this bombshell on me.

“You got a steal and a half Tim. I'll buy it back at a tidy $ ...”

And then he said.

“You have the prototype for my Sheffield "RAW" series. I don't even have those available as a model, so that's a rare item at the moment. I may have sold those prototypes at a reduced price when I needed quick funds, don't recall who purchase and for how much but it wouldn't have been less than $300. Still original pricing was $450”

Thought I would just keep life simple and use the same kit today. It was a great shave and start to the day. Life is good!

I finally tracked down the artisan that created the Silverloaf wedge. For those that didn’t see my update, it is a 1 of 2 prototype that he sold when in a cash crunch. I can totally relate to that situation. I was seeking him out for information on the razor and he offered to buy it back. How often do you get the chance to get something back that you regretted selling?

All of that to say that I am going to sell it back to him. I used it a few times and actually prefer the smaller hollows better. It also seemed like the right thing to do.

Good on you for letting him have it back. At least it was a case where it wasn’t something you really were tied at the hip to. It woulda been really tough for me if it were a favorite piece!

Hope you can find something just as cool in a smaller hollow.

Thankfully I’m not attached to it.
