The Deets-
Today was … a reflective shave, allow me to explain. So last Thanksgiving the missus and I threw tradition out the window and spent the week camping. For the most part, it was a great trip. Turned off notifications on my phone and told my team, only text me if the place burns down, but not during. I was completely unplugged. Greatness was had … and the nightly camp fires … man we need to head out again.

Anyway, a much needed vaca and very relaxing. Took my Dopp bag with the essentials: Gillette Tech, Semogue brush (used today) and Stirling soap/AS called Stirling One. Not sure how old this set is, but I picked it up ages ago. It is old old. Loved the scent and put it in my Dopp to have a nice scent when traveling. So when camping, I found the soap had lost its scent and the lather broke down on me. Thankfully the AS still smells great.

So I wasn’t sure if previous the lather issue was water or what. So I decided to play with it this morning. And the lather broke down again. I typically face lather, but with it failing this morning I thought I would try something. Went back to the puck and loaded even heavier. Then brought out the CC scuttle and whipped it like it owed me money. Lather looked good in the scuttle, but wouldn’t hold when applied. Bummer, but luckily there was probably only 1/8 of the smaller tub remaining. Rinsed the brush and scuttle and grabbed The Fat. Loaded up and back to the scuttle. It whipped up some goodness. Delivering three very nice passes that left me BBS for the win!

Since I was goofing around, I grabbed the tube of PDP AS cream. Years ago I had tried this cream and didn’t like it. It felt too heavy and left my skin feeling greasy. What a difference time makes and I guess I nailed the application this morning. After it had a bit of time to absorb, it left my skin feeling silky smooth with no greasy feel.

So a small tub of Stirling Unscented with Beeswax will live in the Dopp bag for future trips. This will give me more aftershave options too. Sometimes not being in a rush, is the rush. Life is good!

Are you finally getting the message, @BarberDave and @NurseDave?! Tim is showing you The Way. Saddle up men, or be left behind. Unscented is the most versatile soap ever. Case Closed.

The Deets-
So far this week I have hit the snooze button way too many times, so a DE has been on deck. I have been trying the Moroccan Myrrh that I recently scored and it has worked very well.

Not sure of the soaps age, but it has a nice light scent. I have done both face lathering and bowl lathering and have had no issues with either. Both methods have yielded really nice lathers that delivered great shaves. Followed that up with the pleasant fragrance of Duc de Santal … very nice. After this week, this soap will go back into the stash, while I use up some other soaps. Life is good!

The Deets-
I changed things up this morning. Recently ordered a sample of DR Harris Sandalwood and it arrived yesterday. So I grabbed the English bits I had for today’s shave. I lean more towards soaps than creams, but this gave me another opportunity to use my scuttle too.

This cream whipped up a really nice lather and I enjoyed the fragrant shave. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. This razor is no beauty queen, it was an early eBay purchase that I learned to hone with. I accidentally created all the hone wear on the spine, but man this razor still delivers a really nice shave. And I walked away BBS for the win!

Wrapped everything up with a healthy splash of the aftershave and everything was right as rain! I wasn’t sure what to expect from this Sandalwood, but I am digging it and the missus loves it. So I think that rounds out my permanent rotation. Life is good!

Great shave after yard work today. Just scored this Simpson (Thanks Mark!) and the blades and wanted to give them a go. The Sandalwood sample sounded good as well. BBS for the win! And the missus is digging this scent as well. Life is good!
