Newbie welcome

Aurora’s Dad

Shave Newbie
My names Ethan. But I’ll go by Aurora’s Dad as my handle. It’s a way for me to honor and remember my daughter Aurora May 5/29/24.
Now that the introduction is out of the way I came here after watching Barber Dave’s YouTube channel. I’ve started wet shaving not even a year ago. Very slowly dipping my toes into the soapy water. But now I believe I’m hooked and traveling down this cool rabbit hole of scents and soaps and razors. So I came here to learn more and have some fun.

Welcome to the Cadre from the other end of New York (Long Island)! You’re a lucky guy when it comes to software being in Rochester, Frank has Ethos in Rochester and Barrister and Mann isn’t too far away either.

Explore and have fun. What have you liked so far on your start to this journey?

I will definitely have to check out Ethos. I was not aware of that in the Rochester Area. I know there was a soap maker from Irondequoit but has stopped making soaps. Barrister and Mann is on my next to buy, next to try list. Also did not realize it was in New York that’s cool, makes it even more better. I like that there are so many things to try, like soaps and aftershaves. I didn’t realize how many different artisans there are and just how many scents are out there.

Welcome Ethan @Aurora’s Dad ! Glad you could join us!

What are some of your favorite shaving things currently?
Ordering something new from Sterling every week haha. I’m going to run out of room in my bathroom. I like Sterlings barbershop and clubman. Triumph I like but it is a bit aggressive. I just got a razo rock game changer with the .76 head. I really like it. First shave with it I tried a 7 am blade and had a couple nicks but that was probably from operator error. Next shave was better with the same blade. Will probably try the less aggressive head as well in the future.

Honestly, Frank makes a quality product across his line, so pick a scent that appeals to you and give it a try.

I really think the “must-try” is his Skin Food Lotion. It is the best post-balm I’ve tried in 10 years of wet shaving.

If you have questions reach out to Frank
(he’s a member and artisan retailer here and is very responsive to emails sent to the address on his website). I’m sure he’d be happy to guide another Rochesterian
