Let's talk DE blades!

It was explained on another forum by a fella that if he was not a direct Gillette employee he knew someone who was as his info was priceless until the idiots on that forum ran him off with their outright rejection of his simple to the point answers. He explained that Gillette knew via sales what DE blades sold best in certain geographic areas as a result of beard type in said areas. He said they tweaked the blade brands as such. As proof ask yourself why the Nacet is marketed in the Middle East to men who have heavier beards(?). Asian men, despite not being all that hirsute, have the toughest hairs and Gillette markets DE blades to them not available here in the West. IMO those are some of the best, at least for my dashingly handsome face. ;)

A bigger question is whether Gillette uses its latest & best blade technology only on modern disposable/cartridge razor blades or whether it has trickled down to DE blades as well(?). To add fuel to the fire on that there are those who feel the newer "Blue Box" Gillette Platinum blades do indeed shave somewhat smoother than before.

I actually know a fella who knows an engineer at Gillette, but I have not "pumped" him for contact info.........................................yet. 😇

So do you think the Feather blades are designed for Asian men’s courses hair? Maybe that’s why we perceive them as being high on the sharp list?

I've been busy.

#1 by far for me is Wizamet Iridium Super Stainless. Gillette Silver Blue and Nacet blades are also high on my list. Have never tried a Feather but plan to at some point.

Personally, I think the minute differences between say Gillette's top tier blades are almost indeterminable at best when a person has good prep, technique and a great soap/cream. It is often the slight differences in soap/cream quality that either let a blade "shine" or relegate it to utility grade status. Just my 2 cents.

Late for the party but I'm sure I'd be very very content with Silver Blues for the rest of my days. They just work with everything for me. But variety is the spice of life and thank goodness for sampler packs....

As of lately
Perma Sharp Super
Feather
Gillette sharp edge (yellow)
I've started sampling my blade stash again with great results 2 shaves in with a Kai. Bic was not bad either.

1. Personna Lab Blue (etched version, ie not the sloppily printed ones)
2. Gillette Silver Blue
3. Gillette Nacet
4. Rapira Platinum Lux but black, blue, pink packs also good.
5. Wizamet Super Iridium

I've come full-circle with blades.

Started wetshaving with Astra SP's, then tried absolutely everything else out there I could get my hands on. Found a few different brands I liked... found a ton I hated.

And, I'm back to using Astra SP's. They perform better than anything else for me. Every now and then you can snag 100 of them off Amazon for like $7 shipped

I am surprised no one in this thread has mentioned Wilkinson Sword (German) blades. These are my preferred blade. My bias probably comes from the fact they were the only ones Walmart carried for years, so I am rather accustomed to them. However, after trying a few sampler packs, I find they still give me my best shaves.

I've been trying several new blades of late and would put the following as my top 5:

1) Nacet
2) GSB
3) 7Oclock Platinum (black)
4) Voskhod
5) Persona Red (old Israeli)

Back in the day I stocked them to use for mild shaves. I don’t look for mild shaves much any more.

Today was my second use of a SuperMax Diamond Edge (Super Platinum). I am I am quite pleased with the results so far. I have had two irritation free BBS shaves in a row using my King C. Gillette DE (the one that Walgreens carries). I need to try it in another razor, but so far it is a shockingly good blade.

The tuck that I have came from RazorBladesClub.Com.
