January 2025 Sumo Basho

Something I have been toying around with to make these contests a little more interesting.

Already there is an unwritten rule that if a wrestler drops out during day 1 or day 2 bouts I let you pick a different wrestler. That will stay the same. But toying around with this:

At the end of day 5. You will be given the option to REPLACE one of your picks for a different pick. However it comes at a cost. In order to replace one wrestler you lose one win in your total win column.

Just something to make it a little more competitive and make take out some of the guess work.

So would it be retroactive? Would you get all the wins the new guy has already achieved? or would it only be his new wins going forward from the point you pick him?

Looks like Chad is not happy with NOT coming in first and is gaming the rules to see if he can pull out a win. Leave the rules as they are, cheater.
 
I’m always a fan of unnecessary game complexity when it adds to the overall experience and possible twists/turns.

Would need to work out the penalty to make it more exciting than total score -1, otherwise it would almost always pay to switch.

Ideas? Thinking of implementing for March Basho?

New rule if your name starts with S automatic minus 10 points. KJ can start this one right away.
 
With Kotozakura losing now 3 bouts. I feel like for Hoshoryo to get promoted he might need to go undefeated and beat the yokozuna which means Teru needs to fight all 15 days

Looks like Tobizaru is kicking butt and taking names in the upper ranks.
