Hello Cadre

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here and posted anything and I won’t bore you with a long post but it’s been a rather difficult time in my life since March 4th when my condo caught on fire and I lost everything that was in it. I was at work thankfully because as the fire fighters said if this had happened at night when you were sleeping you wouldn’t be with us anymore. So although a lot of memories and treasured items are all gone I’m grateful to be alive. To say I’ve been overwhelmed is a mild statement. I’ve lived in 2 hotels and 2 Airbnb’s until I finally got an apartment. When you start with nothing but the clothes you had on your back that night so I’ve obviously had to purchase basic stuff which is a pretty awakening experience as I think we all take for granted the fundamental things we use and need as they are usually accumulated throughout years so I’ve been let’s say doing a lot of shopping just to get the basics.

So I’ve had to juggle between dealing with the aftermath of the fire which includes dealing with the insurance company ( not fun at all ) and trying to keep ETHOS going so I’ve pretty much been working one way or the other 7 days a week.

The good news is my helper and Myself have finally stated to catch up at work and I’ll post up a what’s been going on with ETHOS post soon.

Again my apologies for my absence from the forum.

All the best!

Frank

Thanks for the update Frank. Sorry to hear the bad news. Glad things are looking up.

Damn! Hate to hear that, Frank. But glad that you're okay.

Glad you’re OK and getting back on your feet!

Thank you gentlemen for the kind and encouraging words. Every day gets a little better.

I’ll say a couple of things to all that maybe will help you not ever have to go through what I have.

1. If you have power strips in your home throw them in the garage and replace them with surge protectors. Power strips cause 30% of all house fires as I was told by the firefighters and inspectors I talked to.

2. Make sure you have a rider on your insurance for contents for “ Full Replacement “ it’s very inexpensive but it will help get back a bigger percentage of what you lost.

3. Review and up your contents coverage about every 2 years. Inflation alone is a reason but also think of how many things we purchase for our houses in a 2 year period.

I’ve learned a lot going through this and if I can help anyone avoid having to deal with what I have then I’ve done my job.

Now I better get back to some soap making lol

Best regards

Frank

Glad you are doing okay. I can tell you (from experience) it will get better... We had a housefire that was a total loss in 1999..... Things can be replaced......

I’m sorry to hear that and yes things can be replaced. It’s some of the memories that were lost in some photos of family members that bother me most.

Thank you!

Ask around with some of your family , ,cousins , aunts , etc , , some of them may have copies of some of the photos you lost or at least some similar to your originals , I know it wont be quite the same , But at least you will have them and you can make new memories....

Thanks for that info I didn’t think of that but good idea as some family & friends may have photos I lost. May not be the exact ones I had but from the same time period.

Frank, I am so sorry to hear about this fire and its dramatic effect on your life. Many people in my community have recently suffered great loses dues to Hurricane Helene. What's happened to you and them reminds me of what is truly important beyond material things. A fellow I know of in Georgia told me he lost to the hurricane his home and everything he and his family owned, but he was tremendously grateful because his wife and children were not hurt or killed. As much as I hate what happened to you, Frank, I am so grateful you survived and were not injured.

I know it has been months since the fire, but I'm sure it is an event you're unlikely to forget.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, my friend.

Happy shaves,

Jim
