Gillette to release NEW DE razor for the holidays....

Well given it's intention of being a fun gift for the guy who has everything but a DE, it's an ok, albeit dull choice. Price point is good and the box is the best thing about it in my eye.

Given the answers in the Mantic interview, it doesn't sound like Gillette is really jumping hard on the DE train yet, but it's a start. Bring back the Tech or Super Speed Gillette.

I put in my pre-order for one of these today. It looks like an EJ89 head, but it will be a nice collector's item.

My hope is that it sells well enough that Gillette gets serious about restarting production of some of the Tech or the Super Speed.

Somebody at Amazon is worse at math than I am. It'll be here Monday.

Sweet! There be some crazy stuff going on in Amazon land! I’m still scheduled for the 20th

I'm looking forward to live pictures. Always been a sucker for that kind of cases:love: And to be honest, when P&G packs someting shiny in a nice box and calls it limited you expect to be really pricey, and it's not...

It is here. I'll leave my first impressions at the end. I know you all want to see what the big deal is.

Out of the Amazon box, it comes packaged like this, nothing fancy.

The only thing in that Gillette box is the main attraction...in bubble wrap.

And here it is.

This is what's inside.

Again, nothing particularly wowing. It's cool that they included an insert with instructions; I don't need them, but whatever.

And I have to continue this in another reply because apparently you can only use 10 images per post. Not a problem, it'll give you a few minutes to browse the pictures in this post.

I had a little more trouble posting that than I thought. Oh well. Moving on.

Here's the back of the insert just because.

Here's without the insert, with the goods on display. Looks decent enough, huh?

IMG_20191112_102144.jpg

Fully assembled.

The only distinguishing mark I could find was on the inside of the top cap, "4." I doubt that has an significance. Maybe 4th quarter? Doubt it, though.

That's all the pictures.

Thoughts:
So this thing feels pretty cheap. The head is super light and frankly feels like it could be the lowest quality metal they could find. The handle is pretty run-of-the-mill and exactly what I expected, nothing remotely remarkable. I think P&G really pulled one on us by shoving this thing out the door without thought of Gillette's former quality. This is pretty crappy. Of course I'm gonna shave with it because it's a tool for me and holds no significant value aside from what I paid for it.

At least they made the presentation feel like the vintages, with the case and bar handle I guess. Thanks for sharing Ben!

I hope this box type becomes trend among new razors! Razor itself, I agree, but who knows, maybe with time we get a really nice Gillette razor, and this could be The first one, and all collectors would go crazy for him :)
Nice pictures, thanks!

The presentation box itself feels pretty cheap too. But I agree. I hope it starts a trend because I love how it looks.

No problem, fellas. If there's enough interest I'd be okay with doing a passaround for those who might be interested in physically seeing it before pulling the trigger on a secondary market buy.
