Gillette to release NEW DE razor for the holidays....

From what I can tell it's zamak. That in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing. But the head looks like a Muhle clone. And the handle is a copy of the Common Bar handle that was so often paired with the NEW. But they were brass. I have no interest in this razor. I would have welcomed a reissue of the Tech that we all thought was going to happen when a picture of what appeared to be a new Tech was seen in a Gillette ad. But whatever they put out there needs to be either brass or stainless steel. Price it accordingly and then if they want something for the masses, produce something like this.

Yep it will at least be collectible due to the fact that it's their first in many years and if it's a hit great they continue and if not they get to say it was a limited edition. People had been saying they hope they made a new one even if only limited and it looks like they listened.

Hell, I'll buy it for the same reasons Jimmy mentioned.

But it's definitely encouraging. While likely not even remotely of the highest quality materials or novel design, it's a sign that we're on the Gillette and P&G radar. That being said, I'm not expecting a whole lot more for a while.

Many were hoping Gillette would do something of similar quality as their Vintage. I knew it's a new Gillette Company and they did pretty much what I expected they would.

There’s been a broad resurgence of sorts in the DE razor in younger crowd lately. A lot of the push lately has been from a sustainability and “unisex” or otherwise gender neutral stand point. ...oh boy are prices out there. I guess being mindful of today’s causes is about the $$. But we all know wet shaving saves money right? Gillette is clearly participating the best way they know how. Now maybe we’ll see some good/better DE blades come to market again?
Kinda cool looking kit even though it’s not made to the highest standards possible...good price though

Just saw this on Reddit. I got excited for a second, then realized it’s probably not a “new” razor but a rebranded something or other and probably overpriced. I was right ☹️

I will probably buy one... Don't know how much use it will get... I am a hopeless collector... *sigh*

Just know that we expect an in depth review!

AoS promised us a new Gillette razor a year or two ago. This is even a step down from that. I’m so disappointed.

At the Collectibles Show, they made a big deal about this release. I watched as every collector ordered the razor after the presentation by Matt Pisarcik of Razor Emporium. I had dinner Friday night with he and his wife along with Al Zimmer, who has a collection of over 3300 razors. Great dinner along with great razor conversation.

This was the 16th annual show. You should consider attending. Amazing razor displays along with great pricing for attendees from collectors who have four of everything.

Enjoy your shaves,

Jeff

OK this reqiuires much more detail...... What exactly was the presentation about, and what was it about the presentation or the razor that made everyone want it?

The point made was that serious Gillette collectors would need to add this new release to their collections. It wasn’t the nature of the new release, but rather that they needed it for completion purposes. Many of the collectors there owned every type and subtype of Gillette razor.
