Biggest soap/cream Pet Peeve?

Today I was thinking of Chris Lindsay's talk of container sizes and grouping them together. I've been meaning to regroup mine accordingly and fix side labels for those without which is a pet peeve of mine too. Got it done today.

We can all definitely like different things and we can all definitely disagree on things all the while still being friends!
You're right, but I shouldn't have been so blunt. I'm sorry, everyone. My comment does come across as being critical of others and their choices. That's not how I meant it.

Hey, I was just stating my feelings in support of Aaron since they are the same. No attack on you or anyone else. Never said I don't think others should do what they wish. Just giving my side of the coin knowing for some there is another side of the coin. It is understood that 1 persons pet peeve is not another persons or it wouldn't be happening, correct?
No explanation needed and I was not offended by anyone...I definitely agree with both you and Aaron and and respect the reasons why you choose to buy or not buy. If anyone needs to apologize it is me for not being able to express myself adequately.

Do not apologize Aaron...and I don't think you were blunt...I agree with you on some level and as stated above definitely respect your decisions to buy or not buy. Any apologies that are need should be on my part. But please...do not feel like you need to sugar coat how you feel around here.

I think we’re all a bit thick skinned around here.

Quit apologizing already! It’s getting a little thick in here....

That is one nice clean den you have there Dave?

As far as soap pet peeves there are a few things that annoy me but nothing serious.

The first thing that comes to mind is airy lather. Some soaps have this airy quality and never reach that thick consistancy. I realize this is purely aesthetic and doesnt effect the shave, but it mentally bothers me to where i neglect soaps with this attribute.

Another is weak scents. Not a big deal, but if a soap maker is going to go thru the trouble to create a nice scent, it should be mid/strong so people could enjoy it more.

Smeared labels is another example. Its not enough for me to stop using a particular soap, but it reflects poorly on the artisan when its being displayed in SOTD pics/videos. The old Ballenclaugh labels are perfect example, almost imbarassed to include in the pic.

I have the exact opposite bet peeve than Chris.
I have a problem with soaps that have to strong of a sent. Especially ones that are sweet or to potpourri.

Sandlewood can can make me sick to my stomach.

Also do some soaps can burn a face. The New York Shaving Company had this soap St Patrick’s Day that left such an irritation. For those reasons I will drop a soap.

All good point SW. I agree some things are a turn off even if not preventing a purchase.

I don’t take offense easily. I don’t like when people purposely try to use explicit names for shock value. But I just steer away from them.

I mean you won’t catch me buying Balls Across the Chin Shave Cream. I just don’t fall for those type of Marketing schemes.

Along that same line...... Air Bubbles under the top label really bother me. It really doesn't look good in a picture to have bubbles under the label. If they are small or near the edge a lot of times they can be pushed out, but just yesterday I got a tub of Stirling in the mail, and I kid you not, I counted 15 air bubbles under the label. That's just ridiculous.

I can't say that I have any peeves as such, just more preferences.
I prefer non-cologne scents that are not sharp but a bit rounded and mild (I'm not referring to mild scent strength, which should be present without being overpowering).

I dislike very sharp scents, cologne scents and it's annoying when I buy a soap and discover it's a scent I don't like.

The other thing that annoys me is when a soap irritates my skin or triggers migraines. This is a bit annoyance for me but it's not really the fault of any soap or soap maker as these things are very individual based.

Overall, I guess I could say a peeve is that the artisan industry is supposed to be "all natural" and "good for you" but I run an irritation rate of about 20% with artisan soaps compared to about 5% with commercial brands of shaving soaps.

In this order:
Metal containers of ANY type - Hate, hate, hate metal containers
Labels that wear off or not water resistant
Bubbles under the label

Personally, when using soap in a wooden bowl, I hate that the bowls warp so that the perfectly flat interface between bowl and lid that initially is true ultimately ends up with a wobble. I've been using a bowl of Harris Arlington for the last month or so and I just noticed it last week. It ain't like I'm soaking the soap/bowl in a sinkful of hot water, where I would expect it to warp. Something about the loading and the wet soap sitting in the bowl must have something to do with it.

I've always been leery about using wood bowls. Mainly because I don't want the water to harm the finish.
