THE KONA FILES:
Well even though it is a bit early for the Monsoon, we did have some humidity last night, and a sprinkle of rain. That being said it brings out a host of Creepy crawlies ( 9 wolf spiders, and a giant crab spider dispatched last night).... Sorry
@Spider they were getting a bit too comfy. Anyway it also brings out this.....
..Yes the Colorado River Toad. They can get upward of 4-5 lbs, however they are very TOXIC, especially to Dogs. They have a toxin that they excrete from the back of their legs, and along their back which is somewhat of a mucousy of toxins that when a dog plays with them, bites, them or licks them the perverbial $%^& hits the fan. In worst case scenarios if unchecked the dog can die. We got lucky. We let Kona out for his evening patrol, and we noticed something completely off as soon as he came in the door. It should be noted that Kona is a spaz to begin with, but this was on a whole new level.
picture yourself, drunk, stoned, on acid, and mushrooms at the same time.... Ya like this. Multiply it with a crazy mutt and we have issues. For about 10- minutes he would not stop running at full speed around the house, not wanting to be caught. Finally he cam over a bit snappy with his jaws and completely dialated eyes. Not a good sign. Fortunately he was not foaming at the mouth, or displaying any seizure or lethargy activity, but immediately he was hauled off to the shower and what amounts to water boarding our dog.... copius amount of water ran though his mouth teeth, and gums to rinse off the toxins, per protocol. The rub is, while you are doing that, you cannot let him swallow or get down to his stomach or really bad things can happen.
So while Sharon has nozzle duty I went and found said frog, paying mind not to touch him, as humans can be affected the same way. Took him to the back of the property and kindly launched him Apollo style into the BLM land. Came back, called the ER for puppies, and was told we had done what we can and to watch him for a few hours, if he threw up, got more jittery, lethargic, or seizures to bring him in.
Thankfully within about 2-hours he was resting and I monitored his Vitals & breathing and he seem tired but OK, and today he is not up to 100%, but treat savy to we think he is OK.
Well that is my eventful day Hope yours was not
Cheers
