I have an expensive badger brush that will not load in the center. It won't lather in the center either. For that reason, I've always used boar, and have been quite happy with the pig. Is this the way badgers perform, or do I have a dud?

Definitely not typical. Sounds to me like it needs a good cleaning. Give it a good soak in dishsoap, vinegar, and water. If there are any mineral/soap deposits stuck to the brush that should take care of it.

Years, but I've scarcely used it.
