@pipingtenor2570 I wonder if you could post a few photos of raw burl (in large chunk form). I like to think I know what burl looks like and would recognize it in the wild (or on my firewood) but as I get older I am learning I don't know as much as I thought I did. Also, are there types of wood/burl that you can't make stuff from? I (think) i know that certain hardwood burls are highly prized but can burl from some random hunk of some tree I find in the forest be turned into something wonderful too?

Don't admit this out loud. Its the duty of us dudes to go through life with an air of competence and confidence. Even when its obvious we have neither.
I find fake it till you make it to be a very good philosophy…until it isn’t. A good example of where this philosophy can fail spectacularly is mushrooming. I don’t think identifying something as being burl when it’s not will kill anyone but I could be wrong (burl? Nope hornets nest…argh)

When Scott doesn’t reply right away I always assume he’s out singing on a Juliet balcony overlooking a well manicured lawn with a small swan containing pond.

You bet! On Monday I'll post a series of photos from burl coming out of the ground to me buffing a brush handle.
