Hello Cadre,

It has come to our attention that there is an issue with some posts that are being posted. We and our software company are diligently looking into the issue and we thank you for your patience, as Dave, Chris, and I still continue to learn this software.

We recommend that you do not use a cloud sharing platform to upload your photos, as there is no guarantee they will always be visible across all platforms and we obviously can not support those types of issues.

We recommend that when uploading pictures to TSC and if you want to guarantee that everyone can see them to use the "Attach Files" button. This seems to be the most reliable.

We will post updates as we receive them, and we would encourage you to edit your posts and delete the non visible photo, and upload it again. If the edit option has disappeared meaning too much time has passed. Feel free to just post an additional post in the thread.

Thank you,

Dave,
Chris,
Chad

I think the problem here Chad is that I think some pics that some can't see maybe others can. The sock thread as an example...you say you can't see the thread, but I can see it just fine. It might be because I'm the OP. But I may not know what photos can be seen or not.

Thanks for keeping us updated .

I think it is because you are the uploader. Have you noticed any pictures today you can't view? Best example would be Chirs's cblindsay Memorial day video. He pasted a few pictures after the video in a separate post. Most can not see them.

I figured that's what it is. I did find a pic of mine that I uploaded on a different device this morning and was in able to see it. Followed your above instructions and all is well.

FYI I'm having the same issue at home and at work, so it does seem to be site related.

In the SOTD of the week thread, I posted a picture last night using the picture icon in the top bar from my pc. I can still see it on my pc, but not on my phone when I looked today. I also can not see the photos posted after in that same thread on either platform.

I can not see Don's sock photo on either platform, but I can see the acquisition photo he posted. It is small like a thumbnail instead of a full size but it will enlarge if I click on it. The others will not open on either platform.

The issue is fixed. IF you were using the camera button to upload the pictures it was broken. It is fixed now.

You will need to re-upload your pictures if you used the camera button in the last 24 hours in order to make them visible!

I normally link them from my Google pictures account. I did a test post in the testing area. Is that a reliable means of displaying images you think?

Well I can see your photo so I'd say that works. The issues we were facing at the beginning of this thread have been corrected by our software company that we use.

Personally I think you are okay as long as Google doesn't try and do what PhotoBucket did and start charging for their service.

Yes let's hope they don't follow that practice. I pay a very small, nominal fee now ($20 a year) for 100gb storage which for me is more than reasonable. My understanding is PB went WAY over that (well into several hundred a year?) to allow people to keep their images stored.

I'm also fine with uploading if that's a better option, if there's sufficient storage capacity. I see some users often that don't compress their images and throw up multiple megabyte files routinely. As long as there's enough storage capacity for that over the long term!

Yup...I need to do a better job at that...now I feel shamed. With me, I just get lazy, but Lane...you are absolutely correct. I either need to link or compress. It is better for TSC.

What is and how do we compress for us tech challenged?

Hey Dave,

When I edit in photoshop there is an option to "save for web display" so the image is good size for viewing on screen but much smaller than would be needed for things like photo printing. So it depends on what you're using to edit with and the save options it offers you.

A few years ago many sites across the web either restricted such uploads or didn't allow them at all due to limitations on storage space so a lot of what drives that would be available storage capacity of the hosting site.

I guess that's where I fail technology wise. I download photos right from Google photos to my computer and upload from there. I never do any editing as I ain't that smart.....hope what I've posted and how is kosher

Everyone does photos differently. You just need to look at the SOTD threads to understand that. I personally don't think there is a right or a wrong way. I tend to do what you are doing. I also use Google Photos and the editor in it isn't half bad. It allows you to at least play with some filters and crop some things. Worth trying if you want to add a tiny amount of flair to your photos but definitely not required.

At this time, because of the way our forum is hosted, we don’t need to be concerned with file sizes because the storage is essentially unlimited. That said, there is great value to us and you in having and using a photo hosting site and linking your image to the forum. One advantage out of the gate is the potential for better quality images, photos uploaded to Imgur and linked tend to have Better resolution ...so if you are taking high res photos and trying to post the best possible images a hosted situation may be best.

Down the line, should the forum choose to or be forced to use a different platform and provider, we may need to be more concerned about space. Hoste/linked photos can help there. But more importantly, we want all photos to be able to migrate to whatever platform/upgrade/host/provider we use to facilitate the forum.

Also down the road a bit, when we start using the actual website to build wiki’s and resources, we will have limits we would need to be aware of.

There are some very skilled guys on the forum already, we would hope that those who might be looking to “up there photo game” can learn from them. Photography is definitely a gentlemanly endeavor and it is fair game for discussion/learning/teaching on the forum.

Yep, size limits is more what I was concerned with. May check into Imgur. Just a little gun shy of hosting sites after getting burned and photos held for ransom at photobucket. Thanks
