An Unexpected Journey: A Newbie's Walk In Wet Shaving

Hey...what's the worse that can happen?

But then I remind myself of the barber straight I used and what I did to my face. You know...we do expect a video of this...right?

The guy who gave it to me to try suggested using it just on my cheeks and I think that will be the first effort. I must say I'm starting to get intrigued with trying it. Video? I in no way have that capability not owning a cell phone. Besides, mammoth hair and blood would not be family friendly

No shave today cadre. I had to go up and help my Dad with some Mr. Fix-it stuff and deal with a toilet with low water level in the bowl.

Mad respect here! I wish I had the fortitude to ditch my cell phone. Alas! I use my phone for many things and I am weak and therefore have not the fortitude to go that far against the grain!

I was thinking the same thing Don. Often I wish I could get rid of the phone and go back to the good old days of actually interacting with humans ???. Unfortunately I use it for about 75% of my real estate business. It would be nice to not have the ridiculous bill as well. I don't know what’s worse, my cell phone bill or my Comcast bill! ?

Same boat here! I pay about the same for both. Man if I could ditch just one of those bills or at least half each of them...I might get some things paid off sooner!

Same here! Comcast really gets me though. They have exclusive contracts with all the Philly sports teams except for the Eagles. So if I want to watch the Phillies, Sixers, or Flyers I have to have Comcast. I’ve also looked in to doing all streaming services and biting the bullet with the sports, but I still need Comcast to provide my internet service because they are the only option where I’m at. I asked what my cost would be for for just high speed internet without cable and they told me $103/month! It’s insane!

We have Cox in my are and they do similar things. I could totally just do streaming and with ESPN+ I wouldn't really miss out on any of my LSU sports...but like you...just internet is almost as much! And if I decrease my Mbps then I get throttled if I go over what limit they give me. My only other choice here is AT&T and where I live they only have very slow speeds. UGH!

If you don’t have a cell, we like them old times moving picture types too! Or maybe reel-to-reel?

I wouldn't even know how to try to upload the oldies

My camera video might work.

I used to carry a smart phone for my last job as it was required. They do have their conveniences for sure, but the invasiveness of the technology is just over the top now. My uncle worked for some pretty serious government agencies and the military and he won't carry one today either because of what he's seen done with them. That all sounds really weird, but I find I don't need one really. I wasted so much time all day responding to texts which I suspect would have been resolved on their own if connecting to me wasn't so easy. I hated the "Hey, what's up?" texts. I guess I was born a few centuries too late

After No-Shave Saturday, I was ready for a decent shave this morning. My wife put in a request for Chamber Black, so I was more the happy to oblige. But there was blood this morning.

Today's Shave: Shave #105

Razor: Parker Variant - Graphite handle
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Brush: Eric's Lignum Vitae Hand Turned Brush Handle, 22 mm Boss Knot
Soap: Chamber Black
Bowl: Red Salsa Bowl (plastic)
Pre Shave: Wash with soap in the shower . Rub raw soap on face from the puck.
Total Razor on Face Time: 15 minutes

Post Shave: Cold water rinse, Witch Hazel (Walmart Bran
d) face only, Cold rinse. Chamber Black AS Balm. Mammoth
Painting.

I just gotta say, I love a shave after having a day off. I get the smoothest shaves with a day or so growth. I worked up a great lather with my new favorite brush and was ready for a great shave. I set the razor at 3.5, put a new Gillette SB blade in and got right to it. I took the time to give my razor a good cleaning with soap & hot water while I had it apart to put in a new blade.

WTG pass felt really great until I got a nice cut underneath my schnoz. This cut was the worst one ever and I pretty much had a stream of blood running down my face for the rest of the shave. The thing was, I didn't feel it happen and it didn't hurt. My second XTG/ATG pass was great and I forgot the razor was still set at 3.5, oh well. But on my cheek I have this flesh colored raised spot that's not really a mole and I nicked that little baby doing some clean-up. Dang, blood on both sides of the face. My 3rd pass was my usual S-N XTG/ATG pass. No drama with this one. I did some clean-up and got BBS+ and just touched that dolphin for the first time.

I spent a long time dabbing the weepers with a tissue to get them to stop bleeding. Luckily, nothing noticeable after my post shave routine. I'm still boycotting the NFL because of those players that will not stand for our national anthem, so I'm not watching the Super Bowl like probably most of you are. Have fun, and enjoy all the good eating and enjoy the game!

Only reason I’m watching the Super Bowl is because a friend is having a b-day party with it on, otherwise I wouldn’t be either.

It a little scary how cleanly you can chop your face up with traditional shaving! I guess better a clean cut for healing though than a ragged one.

No problem, I'm not one of these guys who believes others should do as I do so I understand. It's just a personal conviction of mine. My wife and I enjoyed catching up on Forged In Fire and American Pickers.

I remembered to get around my shave last night so I had time to think about what I wanted to do this morning. I dug out a soap that's been riding the pine for a little while.

Today's Shave: Shave #106

Razor: Parker Variant - Graphite handle
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Brush: Eric's Lignum Vitae Hand Turned Brush Handle, 22 mm Boss Knot
Soap: RR What The Puck Blue Barbershop
Bowl: Red Salsa Bowl (plastic)
Pre Shave: Wash with soap in the shower . Rub raw soap on face from the puck.
Total Razor on Face Time: 10 minutes

I really wanted another day of the Chamber Black soap, but I decided to stick with last night's pick. The BB soap lathered really quickly compared to many of my tallow based soaps. I had to go back for more soap product, but got a really good looking lather. It took more water than the Chamber or MW soaps.

I set the razor at 3.5 and got going on the WTG pass. I could start to feel the effects of chasing the dolphin yesterday, so I went really carefully avoiding that scalped spot on my cheek that was my second cut yesterday. I'm still using the Micro Touch One to shave under my nose and it's working well for that purpose. My second XTG/ATG pass found me feeling a little raw on the upper lip. I forgot my plan of shifting the razor down to 1.5 on the upper lip so it's feeling it after my second pass. Today was a simple 2 pass shave so I decided to keep the clean-up to a minimum and wound up with a good DFS+ on the face and DFS everywhere else.

I had to leave really early for work so I had to do a shower shave this morning. I thought I'd test the Chamber Black and see how it performed in the shower environment.

Today's Shave: Shave #107

Razor: Parker Variant - Graphite handle
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
Brush: Eric's Lignum Vitae Hand Turned Brush Handle, 22 mm Boss Knot
Soap: Chamber Black
Bowl: Red Salsa Bowl (plastic)
Pre Shave: Wash with soap in the shower . Rub raw soap on face from the puck.
Total Razor on Face Time: 9 minutes

A 3 pass shave was ordered up this morning even though I needed to do a quick shave in the shower. The lather went fine and I tried wetting the brush with hot water which allowed me to only need to load the brush once. I think this was because the knot was more flexible therefore it was able to load product deeper and coat the knot hairs better.

I set the razor at 3.2 and did my WTG pass. This was so smooth and silky. I just love the feel of a hot water shave. My second & third passes I set the razor at 2.5. The second XTG/ATG pass was really good feeling. I did some J hooking along the jawline in an effort to cut-down any clean-up time. The third pass was my usual ATG/XTG south to north stroke starting at the bottom of the neck and working upward. As I hit the jaw line I swing right or left toward the ears depending on what side of the face I'm on. Clean-up in the third pass is always straight south to north. I find I need that swing toward the ear on the first stroke or it's just too rough and direct of a ATG. If I got that direction during clean-up on the second pass I risk some irritation. Minimal clean-up and a very nice BBS shave all over. A tiny bit of irritation here and there because I can't hear the audio feedback and I tend to want to apply more pressure in the shower and I think that's just my mind reverting back to 16 years of cart shaving in the shower.

Very nice shave and read. You're getting some use out of that brush and soap. I broke the soap out the other day. Forgot how much I like the scent of it. I'm definitely going to order a bottle of the EDP from WSP.
