Soap ages and changes color somewhat. It usually doesn't affect performance. I have used all three varieties of Valobra shaving soap and it is fantastic stuff, especially the soft cream soap in the brick.

I used it this morning, and it was lighter after use, indicating that the outside portion of the soap was a bit oxidized. The performance, though, was absolutely phenomenal.
I used my old chunk of Valobra Menthol soft cream soap again today and to be frank no modern artisan soap shaves better. Sure, many smell better and a few have better post shave feel, but for pure shave performance with glide/cushion it is at the top pf the heap. I could use it every day if needed. I just hope that Proraso doesn't FUBAR the formula since they bought Valobra recently.
It was best case scenario. I would be worried if it was P&G or similar, they (Proraso) stated that their desire is to preserve Valobra heritage. All we can do to help them keep old formula is to buy it
