An Ode to Valobra Pucks

Gagi

Here for the Bingo
As promised, I should write something about it. So, here it goes.
Right in the same time I started this hobi, and began lurking shaving forums, hype about some new soap started. It was Valobra puck. And when first reviewed, I had to stop lurking, and sign to That old place to be able so see full pics of it. Then I was recruted to some local forum as well, and I soon stated to try, learn and try some more products. Except Valobra. When I first tried it, I alredy had experience with a lot of soaps, and was kinda nervous. Guess it's that Never met your hero thing. But it was good, o it was, and still is. It's classic, reshaped. No fancy, exotic, limited pack, just convenient plastic jar, with some cardboard box. Inside, perfect sized puck, triple milled, but not English threeT plastic-like, but smooth, and almost soft-like, yet tabac-hard. Outstanding performance, and great skin feel. And smell. To me, they all are good, original, and very classic, but I tend to use unscented exclusively. Why? It's what soap should smell, clean, and soapy. It's what you expect for soap to be. It's like saying, we have nothing to hide here, it's just soap. It's Valobra! Soap that made me sign in, soap that became my hero, and lived to the expectation. My favorite to this day.

What and no picture in it's honor ?!? 😁

I have a couple of pucks of old The Art of Shaving soap that I will be working my way through. I love it and Valobra is on my list of soaps to buy again once I've whittled down my stash.

I have two pucks of the Valobra AOS Sandalwood tallow soap. It is really great soap. Unfortunately, I find that it has been eclipsed by several of the newer artisans.

I have yet to try the Valobra in the blue tubs, but I do want to give it a try some day. I will probably wait until I kill off those two pucks of the AOS tallow. I am hoping that the regular Valobra stuff stands up a bit better to the newer soap artisans.

Excellent @Gagi ! I too have a few pucks of the old AoS Sandalwod soap and absolutely love the stuff. I have often thought about purchasing the regular old Valobra...but woefully have not. Looks like I have another soap to add to the list!

The Valobra in the blue tub like this?

This is excellent soap indeed. I've only tried the "Patchouly", but totally dig the scent, even though it's on the subtle side. It has an almost vintage soap feel to it.

I remember pressing a stick down into a tin and getting some great shaves. Finished that tin and bought a replacement stick but - it always happens. The replacement rarely gets opened. It's on to the next experience... But i do have an AoS talllow sandalwood that's still getting attention. Terrific products.

I can not disagree, Valobra is a good soap indeed. My first exposure was to an OLD brick of menthol, I pressed it into a tin and have enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree, it smells like...soap. Then I was given a puck in the plastic tub you spoke of, I think it’s vetiver scented...of course it’s the soap variety of vetiver, nice and clean. I think it’s safe to say the stuff is a wonder performer with a clean and enjoyable scent but I would choose menthol over any other scent because the scented version doesn’t present much scent to enjoy/

True. Totaly diferent soap, though. Mentol, and almond scented Valobras, are soft, croap (crema di sapone) veg based soaps. They can be bought in 150g and 1kg size briks, which is great value, and although veg, I prefer them over Cella, p160 etc.

My brick of menthol was so old it was quite firm and putty like. I happen to love the subtle scent of menthol in a good soap so Valobra menthol scores big with me.

You sir have good taste.

I have 4 tallow formula AoS pucks in reserve, and my experience using AoS Lemon or Lavender and C&S 88 or O&C was stellar. I still firmly believe that La Toja is the best soap available, but no other big company tallow formula touches Valobra’s.

I need to reevaluate my policy about soap sticks. Never got to try Manantiales, if I did, maybe La Toja would be equally loved by me.

If they made La Toja as a puck, it would be far more mainstream and compete with the other ‘big soap’ products for bragging rights.
