Blessed with unexpectedly cooler weather for the rest of the week!

A new internet service finally came to town and finished their main fiber installs in our neighborhood…so we’re making the switch and getting installation some time today. Hopefully it’s an improvement!

What kind of speeds do they offer?

Supposedly 1 and 2 gig. We shall see. I’m convinced it’ll at least be better than what we currently have, which if I’m not mistaken is regular coaxial cable line. The internet service that’s been here and pretty much been the sole provider is not impressive but it’s been manageable. Benefits of lack of competition.

We have the capability to offer 1G, 2.5G, 5G & 8G through direct, Fiber-To-The House (FTTH) connections. Our average down-time for customers from service outage report to repair & service restoration is < 2 hours.

Not bad for a small town, podunk cooperative.

Just great...I live in the entertainment capital of the world and my internet is slower than mud.....and Mark lives within spitting distance of the movie Deliverance and his internet is on turbo. No fair.

We have Xfnity, great internet service, we are at 1TB, however the cable portion Blows. Way too expensive overall, and if you cut cable, the internet gets into the "Stupid" price range. When we get back we are switching over to Starlink Home. We have had it on the RV for about two years and never had a problem. Some friends have it, and internet speed are comparable Xfinity, and only have to switch the dish from ROAM plan to Home. Since we are Space X shareholders now I guess we should go "All in" LOL

Holy smokes…you must sub-lease 5 gig service to your neighbors while running live AI generated Banda Prosciutto concerts 24 hours a day.
Ya it blazing fast, for video editing it is a must and do some flight, racing , and some space sims as well

1TB?? Wow! Gotta ask though, at what point does the law of diminishing returns come into play? We've tested speeds here at the office and there is a noticeable increase in service speed / quality between 1G service & 5G. Beyond that (other than businesses), the average household (unless you're in a Duggar family like brood) really has neither a real need nor even an architecture in place to fully utilize those speeds.

But, that's just my view.. I'm sure if we were to offer that much bandwidth to a single user, we'd happily take the money! 💰💰

On a side note, I've been here nearly thirty years and I was part of getting the very first 33 kbps dial-up system running. Next came 56 kbps and eventually DSL. We did offer dedicated T-1 service (1.544 Mbps) for local banks, businesses and the like for quite a high price at the time. I still remember the first private customer who had a T-1 line installed in his house and wondered what the hell he needed that kind of crazy speed for! 🤣

Well we are running everything off my Barbershop Appointment Server, a gaming server, as well as some "other" servers here, as well as multiple computers, phones, etc. As far as speeds I dont monitor it too much i just know it works, Xfinity offers 1gb to most home users, but with the servers, I needed something to keep up. It will be interesting to see the difference once we switch to StarLink and safe over half on the monthly bill
