Do yall use anything else when using Eau de Cologne/Aqua de Colonia splashes as aftershave?

What i mean is when using old school and kinda diluted stuff like Florida Water, barber colognes, 4711 (IF not using the official after shave), Farina, etc, do yall use or mix anything with it when applying as an aftershave? Often they include no moisturizers despite being pretty diluted/low in alcohol, but still, it's pretty bracing on its own.

Do you mix it with any aloe, toners, butters, or just dilute it further? Or do you just slap it right on and go about your day?

It’s personal preference really.

I don’t see the the older stuff or more simplistic frags as being diluted…they’re just covering a certain level of fragrance - usually lighter, more airy, fresh, in a citrus/light musk vein. Less obtrusive and not meant to last a long time.

Easiest thing to cut it with to make a “aftershave” might just be plain witch hazel or light balm (Nivea post shave sensitive is pretty light and crisp). It may not stay mixed well, so I suggest just making a little at a time into small bottles/dispensers or just mixing in your palm.

Yeah I figure. Just used Florida water as a splash and it stung but didn't kill me. I put on thayers rose petals toner prior but I think i can solve this by switching it up a bit.

I was considering a lighter and much more hydrating toner like Thayers Milky with Snow Mushroom and maybe applying the old school Colognes with a misting atomizer. Splashing to the face works but does irritate and leaves the skin/hands feeling a little grippy/sticky.

Might also consider following up with a rice water moisturizer after too, to keep it light but hydrated but not enough to kill the scent. I've sampled some from my local sephora after applying aftershave and I noticed it didn't overshadow and kill the fragrance.

All this just to tolerate some alcohol, but such is the love of the game.

I normally apply witch hazel before an alcohol-based splash. In the past I would mix a little hyaluronic acid in as well. Really helped by adding moisture as well as soothing post shave skin. I may start using it again..

Good tip. I've been looking into a lot of these old school alcohol splashes and wanting to wear them without killing my pores, especially since we've been so spoiled with modern advances in hygiene lol.

But this is mainly for those that don't have after shaves to tag along, like for example Farina 1709, Sol de Oro products, the countless Aqua Colonias, Eau de Colognes, Aqua Mirabilis, Florida Waters, etc. 4711 doesn't count because it does in fact have an after shave splash.

If it comes as a splash (open top or flow restrictor vs spray) I just splash and go. I may or may not splash on some witch hazel or rub on some post shave oil if I feel like it but more often then not I just treat the EdC splash like an aftershave. I’m not really worried about moisturizing or preventing dryness because I’ve never had dry skin. I like the bracing feeling of any good alcohol based product so that is probably my number one reason to use what I use, scent being the other

It is generally understood that a simple moisturizer or balm applied before or with a splash on frag will help that frag stick around longer but I have never been too concerned about longevity. I don’t usually reapply any cologne or aftershave during the day but I do keep a couple basic scents in my office in case I feel the need to smell better for a client.
