SOTD May 2026

Tuesday morning - my birthday shave:

Cool shower
Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
Super Speed/Perma Sharp day 10
Stirling Glacial Mango Sunrise SS
Bundubeard Stoffel ASB
Floid Vigoroso AS Splash

Wowwww, what a great Grand Freeze this was - when Rod and Mandy make stuff they put the right ingredients into them and a lot of love. Three passes knocked off my tough stuff and gave me a fabulous BBS shave that was such a pleasure!

Wishing you all a nice day - be well and stay safe!

I put a sample size of that Glacial Mango Sunrise in my cart the other day as I prepare to make an order.

I just bought a puck of Kent soap. I haven't tried it yet. It's my understanding that it is sans tallow, but does have lanolin. I look forward to trying it. How close is it to the non-tallow MWF?

I have never tried the non-tallow MWF. I have an old puck of tallow MWF that I use sparingly. Maybe lanolin is the reason I like the KENT so much. I use it like a shave stick and just rub it on the face then lather. Never fails to give a rich, creamy and slick lather. It's got that MWF scent to it - just clean soap smell.

May 27, 2026 (Mystic May Every Other Day)

• Brush: Semogue – 2000 (Boar)
• Razor: Muhle – R41 (Black)
• Blade: Barbero – Platinum
• Soap: Mystic Water – Tea Tree Plus
• Aftershave: Long Rifle – Hivernant Shave Tonic
• Balm: Every Man Jack – Signature Mint Face Lotion and Post-Shave
• Fragrance: Mystic Water – Florida Water

I have only two more days left in Mystic May Every Other Day after this one. What a wonderful month, thus far. Today’s shave soap is new to me: Tea Tree Plus. Michelle notes, “Essential oil lovers will appreciate this blend of tea tree, lavandin, patchouli and lemongrass. It smells fresh and clean, with all the good skin-care qualities of tea tree oil.” I really enjoy this kind of soap, this sort of lavandin essential oil type thing. I have it in Mike’s Natural’s Lavandin & Eucalyptus and Tallow + Steel’s Classic Two (believe it or not).

The combination that Michelle has come up with here is very refreshing and very nice in the summer. It is nice as well to have this soap be a bit more lemony/fresh rather than smelling more medicinal or having any menthol in it. Michelle accomplishes this mainly by leaving eucalyptus out (she does the tea tree and blue gum soap) and by including the lemongrass and lavandin. Sometimes I could use the tea tree for my skin in the warmer months, and this is perfect for that.

Speaking of Eucalyptus essential oil and Blue Gum Essential Oil, Michelle did clear that up for me. She wrote: “The difference between Blue Gum and other eucalyptus oils: I primarily use eucalyptus globulus (also known as blue gum) and eucalyptus radiata. The Eucalyptus & Blue Gum is made with the globulus type. The two oils are very similar, but radiata is said to be a bit sweeter, and better if using for respiratory problems or for children.” So, when Michelle titles a soap something like “Eucalyptus and Spearmint,” she means eucalyptus radiata, and when she specifies blue gum, she means eucalyptus globulus. The more I think about it, “Eucalyptus and Spearmint” sounds like a sweeter Proraso. Might have to get me yet another sample! It never ends, and why should it!

Have an awesome day, friends!

Wednesday morning:

Cool shower
Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
Super Speed/Perma Sharp day 11
B&M Spice SS
Lubriderm Moisturizer
Stirling Spice EdT

Unbelievable is the way to describe this B&M Spice soap - the scent is just about 100% exactly like the Shulton Old Spice soap that was so loved by many guys including myself, the lather is such a pleasure to work up, it’s super slick, and the post-shave feeling is so comfortable. Will really hit a Grand Slam with this one. The Lubriderm moisturizer wasn’t really necessary but since it’s part of my routine I used it and as always it felt so soothing. Finally the gorgeous Stirling Spice fragrance and that’s it - a couple of rounds of golf with some friends of mine. Another fun filled three pass BBS shave that was so awesome!

Wishing you all a great day - be well and stay safe!

Hello everyone! Hope you had a pleasant evening.

Late post but a great shave to start the day. Returned to MacDuffs Soap Co. and their excellent "Aspen Parkland" shave soap. Fantastic lather built with the Ever-Ready synth for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel and Layrite "No.9" aftershave splash.

BBS bliss!!

Hope you have a great day. :)
