When it comes right down to it, Haslinger is as good as it gets, and it never gets much love. Today I paired it with Derby City Chop Shop Winter Reserve AS, the Simpson Berkeley, the right size for the diminutive Haslinger puck, and the delightful Edwin Jagger 3ONE6.6701.jpg

Hello everyone! Hope you had a pleasant evening.

Phenomenal shave with which to close out the month! Returned to ETHOS Grooming Essentials and Frank's excellent Aventus homage, "Succès" shave soap, splash & EdP. Fantastic scent with incredible lather built with the Paladin badger brush for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Thayers unscented witch hazel, the matching skin food splash & EdP. ETHOS + Paladin, it's a hard combo to beat!

BBS bliss!!

Hope you have a great day. :)

Thursday's Cold Water Shave

Cold Water Rinse
Clubman Pinaud Classic Barber Shave Cream
Jayaruh #144
Gillette Trac //
Trac // Cartridge Blade
Cold Water Rinse
Derby Chop Shop After Shave Tonic

This is my last shave in Hendersonville, NC, so I used what I had on hand. I used the Jayaruh #144 brush to wet my face. The Clubman Pinaud Classic Barber Shave Cream is a non foaming shave cream that I rubbed into my whiskers. Two passes and touch ups with the Gillette Trac // razor and the Trac // Cartridge Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Derby Chop Shop After Shave Tonic. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Thursday morning:

Warm shower
Yaqi 30mm Barber Pole
Super Speed/7 AM day 12
B&M Spice SS
Lubriderm Moisturizer
Stirling Spice EdT

This morning I was in the mood for a Shulton Old Spice shave and because I still can’t find my mug with a puck in it as well as my two back up pucks I went for the perfect substitute which is the B&M Spice. Man alive, this soap smells absolutely EXACTLY like the Shulton Old Spice - do I ever love that scent, the lather is such a delight, and it gives great post-shave care which the Lubriderm moisturizer really enhances. Finally the Stirling Spice fragrance which is another perfect copy of the Shulton Old Spice but with more longevity and that’s it that’s all. Three passes gave me such an awesome BBS shave and I enjoyed it so much!

Have a nice day - be well and stay safe!

What an awesome shave Akhi! I have no experience with Old Spice but the way you describe this is inspiring me to give this soap a try!

Thanks Akhi!

The truth is that this soap is a treasure. I plan to keep it in my rotation for as long as possible. I also plan to buy the Stirling Spice soap because it apparently has the exact same scent as the B&M Spice and the Stirling Spice eau de toilette is 100% identical to the Shulton Old Spice fragrance. It’s MAGNIFICENT!

Sometimes I can be reminded; that despite 90% of a shave going so right, one thing can completely flip the script. I had a phenomenal hot shower. The Lather was whipped up to perfection, and in no time to boot. No fine tuning it, it just turned out aces. I corked my blade (personna lab blue in honor of BarberDave's Personna wars), and away I went. Unfortunately; despite everything being set up for a perfect shave, I didn't notice a small bug bite just under my jaw line. (I sport a beard, so sometimes that can hide potential problem areas.) On my ATG pass, it opened up, and pretty good to boot. The alum just lit me up like the fourth of July. Had to use balm today, which is pretty much a rarity for me. All in all, I'd rate the shave a C+ or B-; and only so because of the terrific start. Had things not been aligned so well, this would easily have been a solid D shave. Shame, as it wasn't the soap's fault, nor a blade dud/malfunction, nor even a technique lapse.

Hey Jeff
I recently learned that going forward B&M products will be manufactured by the folks at Stirling. From what I understand they will continue to remain two separate and distinct product lines. That said, I will definitely purchase the soap you have whilst it is still in stock.

• Bowl: Doug Smith Pottery – Ceramic Shave Bowl
• Brush: Semogue – 1470 (Boar)
• Razor: GEM – Junior 1912 Brass with Art Deco/Chain Link Handle
• Blade: Accuforge – GEM Microcoat
• Soap: Ariana & Evans – Peach & Cognac
• Aftershave: Stirling – Peach Aftershave Splash
• Balm: Stirling – Unscented Post Shave Balm
• Fragrance: House of Mammoth – Smash EDP

I’m coming right out and saying it: I don’t care for the artwork on this shave soap. Ariana & Evans does some really cool and thoughtful labels, but this one gives me the creeps. It makes me think of Medusa. Sad that with them having so many scents available, my favorite happens to be the one with the artwork I do not care for. The scent is spectacular, though. Peter has offered to make a fragrance for me of it for $70 (I believe he will do this for most scents). He even asked if I would like him to tone down the peach in it, but I am not sure I would want him to do that. Once I finish this sample of Smash, I will treat myself. Hopefully, that will coincide with the end of summer as I think Smash is a good summer scent and Peach & Cognac seems a bit more geared toward colder weather.

Smash has been discontinued (though I think there are some on sale at the HoM website) and was created by Will at Barrister and Mann. It is based on the cocktail: the bourbon smash. It features notes of peach, cane sugar, tobacco, bourbon, and hedione. I love the peach upfront, but there is something slightly cloying on the dry-down. Maybe it is the cane sugar or the hedione? There are some moments later in the day when it can be slightly obtrusive. But, still a lovely scent and perfect for a day with lovely weather.

The Shaving Cadre has a few gentlemen that are going to do Mystic May (using Mystic Water throughout the month of May). I encourage you to join or to check out Mystic Water if you have not. I will participate, but with one caveat since I have been sent so many samples and purchased some new stuff, Mystic May Every Other Day.

Have an awesome day, friends!

That’s great news my dear friend - this I didn’t know. I just placed a Stirling order today. 😊😊

For the last day of April, it was on the chiller side. I decided Stirling 's Gin & Tonic would make for a very nice shave and i was right. I love the smell of the juniper berries in it along with the lime. Great shave with the Merica and a 5th use Personna Gem Diamond Glide DE.
