The blade war continue today and now that I got the feel for the Osprey again, it was actually one of the best shaves and the lab blue is proving it’s worth.

As to the rest of the shave, a wonderful Seaforth set and finished up, of course, with the CBL premium Barber powder

DSBBS and silky smooth

At the ranch:

An interesting evening at the ranch, as I was letting Kona in I noticed that his face was a little bit bleeding, and he was swelling up, yes, indeed he was struck in the nose by a rattlesnake, a diamondback to be precise. So thank God to @AvocadoQueen For taking the lead on this as I had to get ready for this morning, so I was in bed early

So some $3000 later, he’s at home recovering his swelling has gone down a little bit, but you can see the pictures below. Always fun living in the desert.

Can’t say enough for the emergency veterinarians. Funny thing is he’s always been very good in alerting with a rattlesnake so we think maybe he just surprised the rattlesnake and boom

Have a good day folks

Rough stuff. Those eyes say it all.
A little late now but I give my dogs a rattle snake vaccine twice a year. It's not ideal becuase it only aids in antibody production for Western Diamond Back and we have BOTH Western Diamond back and Mojave Green in our area. There is question/debate how effective the vaccine is to begin with and even in the best of cases it still requires some amount of additional medical intervention. But i figure since we are most likely to encounter snakes while out jeeping or camping having a little extra time to get to the vet is a bonus. I buy the vaccine by the box direct from the manufacture so for the price of a couple doses fromt he vet I can vaccinate the entire Lindsay pack 2-3 times.

Thanks, Chris yeah, we’ve talked about that but even our vet says it’s not really documented how effective that Vaccine is it’s just really surprising because he is usually he alerts us when there’s a rattlesnake and runs away so I’m thinking he was sniffing under the shed or something and got nailed

Yeah. The questionable effectiveness and potential for reaction to the vaccine (particularly in breeds like my bulldog) make the vaccine a big question mark. I’d love to think it’s providing a benefit but the only real answer is avoidance. Even training won’t do a lot for surprise interactions unless your dog is really intense and attentive. Looks like Kona found a pretty large snake rather than a very young one.
We’ve had several reported sightings from the guys who go off road. The snakes are definitely out and about. There are parts of my yard that could harbor a snake or two but for the most part we’ve limited hiding spots and made things pretty inhospitable. The side effect of course is a good population of very fat ground squirrels

Hopefully Kona uses this event as a great learning opportunity. Keep an eye on that nose, probably going to get some necrosis as the swelling goes down.

As I mentioned earlier, usually he alerts us. The last one he alerted is too was about a 7 foot diamondback. We had a 6 foot Mojave a couple years ago in the yard but like you said, I think what he did is he stuck his nose underneath the shed chasing the squirrel that we have and I think that it just startled that snake because where the bites are if you look, he had to have his nose down and he stands pretty high, so if the snake would’ve come from below, the strike would’ve happened on his lower chin I think what happened is either stuck his head under the shed or stuck his head into a hole

But he’s doing better, so that’s good

For those of you on the fence or still thinking about the CBL Barber powder just do it I’ve been using it all morning in the shop and my clients absolutely love it. It only takes a few sprinkles of the powder to do the entire back your neck behind your ears and your entire face it’s great stuff.

Burn down the neighborhood. Move. That's the correct response.
Well, as KJ knows I’ve become very nice to snakes usually, I trap them and send them otherwise but this one attacked my dog so if I find him, he’s gonna be cut up into little pieces and put in a deep fryer

Continuing Seaforth week, and an absolutely fantastic shave as we continue the finals of the lab blue versus the GEM diamond glide

This was also the first shave without bandages and gloves as the skin matrix is finally allowed that. Really kind of weird since it’s been about three weeks, shaving with gloves how much more feel that you have and that really showed in this shave

As mentioned before, the lab blue is starting to degrade just a bit and you can’t feel that on the face but it’s still providing a DSBBS shave. If the GEM can step up to the plate next week it’s going to be real tough to decide which one’s better. I’m still leaning towards the lab blue, but we’ll see what happens.

The Seaforth spiced is fantastic and finished off with The Shulton 60’s era Old Spice. And of course, the fantastic CBL Barber powder.

At the ranch:
Kona is recovering nicely, however, he’s still swollen in the jowls and when he lays down, he looks like a basset hound that’s melting, but he’s enjoying the codeine and on the road to recovery

Hope everybody has a wonderful day

Seaforth and the Blade wars continue today. Another fantastic shave as we wrap up the week here tomorrow with the lab blue and move onto the GEM for the finals.

Roman spice is by far my favorite scent by the former spearhead shaving. The soap lather is the best out of all their bases in my opinion, and the only one that competes with this as far as fragrance is Heather.

Three passes with the Osprey DSBBS followed by the Roman spice fragrance duo, and then finished off with the CBL Barber powder

A great start for my Thursday

At the ranch:

Kona is progressively getting better. His swelling has finally started to go down a little bit. He is finally starting to eat and we’re on the road recovery

The burns are healing. I should be done with the gloves by this weekend and then on Monday I take the Corvette to the body shop to get some estimates for the bicyclist that hit me head on.

Yeah, it’s been a Week!

Have a good day folks

It’s my Friday, and the final day of Seaforth week and the final five days with the Personna Lab Blue

I did not include black watch in the week because it’s just too cloying of a scent for the summer. As to the lab blue, you could really really feel the degradation of the blade today although it’s still providing a good shave I’m very happy to bin this after 14 days or 42 passes plus cleanups so let’s say probably 50 total passes at least

So we now move onto the GEM for the final five days and will be using CBL soaps for those shaves starting on Tuesday

Going to enjoy some straight razor shaves for Sunday and Monday

Today shave was great with the Heather finished off with the FR English fern type which is actually more like Heather than English fern but still very nice

Also, finally, today is the first day without bandages, so we’ll see how that goes and also the first day wearing a watch again so hopefully back to normality

At the ranch:
Most of the swelling on Kona has gone down. He’s back to his old self again, so that’s good news as well.

Have a great Saturday folks

L'Occitan and a Chevalier for today's Shave. Good to take a break from the Personna blade Challenge to enjoy a proper straight razor shave. The Wacker does need a bit of a refresh today, so off to the Coticule and Arkansas Black later today. The Cedrat and Cade Shave soap are a good match, and the EdT is almost like a "key lemon", if there was such a thing. Almost a Vanilla and Lemon Cream. It is somewhat fleeting, but leave a nice dry down.

At the Ranch:
Kona continues to recover and is almost back to his old wonderful self. We received a few sprinkles last night, and it has been relatively cool for April, but WINDY, so the wild fire hackles are up. Once the hand is fully healed, will get out and do some property defensible space clearing just in case. Today's Agenda started with some coffee, a cigar, and now some Barbershop laundry, and off to get some dogfoods, and maybe takeout something for Dinner.

Just a nice relaxing Sunday. Hope yours is as well
