Last week was tiring because of the strike. This week was not better. Every three years we get a big multiday survey. Historically, they have done the hospitals in our system in same order so once they started the surveys, you would work out approximately how much time you have until you need to be totally ready. They completed around 18 hospitals and then stopped for the holidays. We're 3rd in line of those remaining with our sister hospital next. They didn't come after the holidays, we think because they were changing the way they survey so we figured they were training all the surveyors. Then we had a multiregion strike, which they like to avoid. Then another strike last week, so that pushed out the surveys again. They also don't show up on Mondays in general because that means flying on their own time. So Tuesday, everyone is ramped up yet again at our sister hospital down the road which we share many leadership positions with. And who gets a call that the surveyors are in the building at 7:30 am? ME! Guys, no no no no, wrong hospital! Everyone is waiting for you at the other one. So it was a few hours of scrambling and internal panic, while charming the surveyors and keeping them busy. In the end they left yesterday and were overly complementary and impressed. And, we found out their organization was told that they were being too predictable so they aren't following their pattern any more.

I'm sure your abundant use of your come-hither eyes and the way you laughed at their little jokes had them focused more on you than on the job they were sent to do. We've all been victims of your charm. Just glad you used it for a much less unsavory purpose. This time.

Last week's Drinks & Daves got bumped so join us this evening where we will consume dihydrogen monoxide with abandon!

Once enough kids were out of the house that we decided we could be gone long enough to do the Panama Canal cruise, Disney stopped them. Instead of sending one of their smaller ships back to the Caribbean in the winter, they sent it down to Australia. So when the Panama Canal route opened back up, we let our travel agent know to book immediately it was available for us and luckily we got a room because it was sold out later that same day. The wait of something like 18 months since then is almost over and we leave Friday to start our trip! I should finish the book about building the canal, and mostly the politics and funding behind the endeavor, on the flight down to Texas. After the last couple of weeks, it just the smell of the ship as we step aboard that I'm looking forward to the most.

Tomorrow is the big day! Or one of them at least. Had a nice piece fall into place last night. They offer a spa pass that lasts the whole cruise where you get to use the heated loungers, aroma therapy showers, quiet hot tub, etc etc. By the time my wife decided she would like it, they were sold out. Every time someone posted on the cruise group that they had cancelled one, it was already gone. Well last night at midnight was the deadline for cancelling. I happened to check 45min before the deadline and poof there it was! Don't ask me why someone would want to use the steam showers and stuff when it's like 85 and humid, but now she gets to.

Oh, @BarberDave it's a bummer you weren't visiting now. We had a fun earthquake. Instead of the sharp jarring or shaking, last night it more of a gentle rocking to and fro like someone grabbed the footboard of the bed and was trying to rock to you sleep.
