So Long, And Thanks For All The Shaves

Hey Y’all –

On this day 10 years ago I started L&L Grooming and went
all in with no idea what I was doing, just a dream. It’s been a fun decade. I met so many people, traveled to places I never would have otherwise, raised a ton of money for charity, and really put myself/my creativity out there.

To mark this anniversary, I’m announcing that Declaration Grooming will cease all operations by the end of January. If there’s anything you’ve been waiting to buy, now’s your chance.

To everyone who supported my grand delusion over the past ten years, know that I love you, individually, as you are.

So long, and thanks for all the shaves.

What can I say Brother......

Not a lot of notice from the artisans either. Dennis @ Seaforth announced in August/September he'd be done by the end of the year, and all his stock was sold out in a matter of a few weeks. Scott @ Declaration Grooming just announced he'd be done by the end of this year. (so it'll be gone in what? four weeks?) Southern Witchcrafts, Panna Crema. There's two others I see with depleted stock, and I've a feeling they'll be closing shop as well. Lost Lakewood soap, Williams Mug, and Mitchell's wool fat changed their formula and eliminated the tallow. A shame. I'll miss Seaforth the most, but the others are/were great artisans in their own right. Haven't seen a shaving apocalypse like this since something like 2007???

Dropping like flies! Sad to see another one go.
Yep, we are heading for a hard reset. The artisans killed the old dogs (Williams, MWF, Palmolive, etc) and the wet shaving community has a glut of soaps. Not all of us can own 200+ of soaps like @BarberDave . No worries shavepocolypse folks, its the ebb and flow of wet shaving. People will settle for what is available and then new business will open up and older ones will go out and the cycle starts again. Too bad we can never get back Pre-2005 Williams, Tallow Tabac, and MWF...

We've talked about this on the Zoom calls. A tub of soap lasts quite a while, so you reach a point when even collectors have most of your offerings and don't need to buy for a long time. If they don't have other consumables such as Stirling with their bar soaps, lotions, etc, your sales are going to drop off.

This might be the fault of guys that use a different soap every single day for the entirety of the year. Hard to finish off a tub if you only use it once every 18 months.
Even so, don't you get at least a month out of a tub minimum?

I have many, many, many tubs I haven't touched in YEARS!
But don't you have more soaps than most people? Plus you're the guy using an eraser-head sized amount of soap each shave. You,sir....are an anomaly among the soap-heavy crowd. I'm not saying anyone is doing anything wrong....I'm just noting that a few of you are hording soap like you'll live until 3026.

No, that was only the one time I was trying to stretch a puck of Williams. Everything else I load it like I hate it because I know that's the only way I have a chance of ever using this stuff up.

The limited number of soaps you own makes YOU the anomaly. I think I've given you more soaps than you've ever purchased yourself.

Only one thing to do. Stock up now while there's still some available!
I checked the website and most products are sold out. It must have been a massive FOMO moment for some.
I never tried DG products but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I am still going thru my stash when I was more active here. I am just about done with a Panna Crema DFS collab that was created years ago. I was thought that a 2oz soap would be more optimal for some artisan soap makers since it allows the consumers to go thru it more and then be able to buy more.

Like others have said, many times a tub just sits and sits and sits for years before its truly finished or tossed.

For sure, perfect point! I buy Sterling body soaps, lotions, and lip balm several times a year and occasionally buy a new shaving soap or gifts for friends and family. They are diversified and this is super important!

Im sad to see them go, I've just discovered them recently and have fallen in love with their products and scents.
I have always been a fan of the Chatillion Lux collaborations 88, Taum Sauk, and Champs de Lavade. Granted like the others I have enough soap that these offerings will still last me for years.
